HELP! Rear diff always locked no listed slip????? I have a 06 Mazda speed 6 and my rear diff will not come out of lock. I can't turn in or out of parking spaces with out my diff binding from no limited slip. Any one else have this problem. I have searched online and no one knows how to fix it they replaced the rear diffs with no fix.:damnit: |
Have you checked your diff mounts? Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
Check your mounts, what type of fluid did they put in it? |
How often have you (or anyone else) "launched" it? How much have you (or anyone else) "drifted" it? It's possible the rear diff mount(s) are shot, and it's possible that the diff itself is destroyed internally. |
OP whats your tire pressure? |
Mount are good and brand new I got the juggernaut mount and that was recently installed I put Castro api gl5 I think 80/90. I had this happen once before i replaced the mounts and fluids i unplugged everything and re connected it and it stopped doing it so it should be a electrical problem. |
Check to see if the oil in your transfer case is metallic Is the juggernaut the top mount or the front mount? I don't follow sures stupid names haha Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
The rear diff is electronically controlled so it seems like there may be a wiring gremlin. I would try disconnecting it and leaving it disconnected to see if that disables the rear. |
have you tried pulling the ebrake up one click? |
What's the exact symptom that you're seeing? It may not be the diff but something else going on. Any warning lights from the traction control or AWD system? I'm not sure if we can pull the codes for those with a Dashhawk or AP, but see if there are any going off. Did you check the fuses? Check the fluid, and check the transfer case as well (you have to have the car up and level to check the diff fluid, might as well check the TC too). |
I replaced the top mount. The fluid in the diff is full haven't checked the others but seen no sign of leaking . I tired one click , it just seems like a myth. This is what is happening I try to back up out of a spot and turn once I turn to sharp seems like my rear diff binds and stops me from turning. When I go forward and turn as sharp as I can, the rear wheels start chirping and binding like a non limted slip diff. |
Check your transfer case oil Dammit. And while your down there check the front mount on the diff to see if the bolts broke or backed out. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
Front mount bolts are fine they sheared off before I spent 3 days trying to get them out. But I'll check the transfer case When it's not raining out so soon. |
How do you know they didn't shear again if your still on the stock front mount? It's easy enough to check Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
Well I already checked and I don't think they can shear unless the top mount breaks. |
Mine did.... I have the cpe top diff mount and the front one sheared on bolt and one backed out. My car made similar noises to wat you described right before my t case ate itself Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
Not on a speed but I had this issue with one of my previous cars and it turned out to be the transfer case. if you don't see any obvious signs of malfunction with the rear diff, move onto the transfer case and check that. |
These are all time all wheel drive but at slow speeds it shuts off the rear let's say it is the transfer case not shutting off the power to the rear, wouldn't my rear diff still be able to use its limted slip? |
|
I appreciate any input that I can get this is my first Mazda speed and sadly I have worked on it more than I have drove it . |

Check the transfer case fluid, and the case itself for leaks; it's a common issue that they start leaking, mine did and it had to be resealed. Check all the fuses and relays associated with the AWD system. You may need more than one click to disconnect the rear diff, try that. |
I highly doubt it would be a transfer case issue. The transfer case sees power 100% of the time no matter what. The driveshaft is always spinning, and the power actually sent to the rear wheels is controlled by the coupling in front of the rear diff. I have a thread the shows the whole breakdown of our rear diff. |
Pulling up on the ebrake will disable AWD. If it still has this problem with the ebrake on it points to a mechanical issue in the diff over an electronic issue. |
If the e brake don't kill power to the rear, it's the coupling that bolts to the diff Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
If the ring gear carrier, the actual differential, is compromised it can lock the axles together and cause those symptoms. |
I had this happen to me when I first got it. Then I disconnected all the plugs checked them for corrosion and they all seemed good and I plugged it back in and it stopped doing it for what ever reason. Later that week I did the vvt actuator on this then I did the rear mounts now it's back to messing up again. |
Lol this still hasnt been moved out of the ms3 section |
FWD DREAMZ |
Now my diff is back to normal it just fixed it's self....lol I need to find out what's causing this . |
Must be electronic |
