how do i retime? I bought a car that DELUSION H had just replaced the timing assembly on. They didn't replace the crank bolt so it slipped. Thankfully it slipped when i was cranking it over rather than going 60 on the highway. Anyways, could i use the sst cam plate for cam side and tdcp for crank side to re-time or is it way more complicated than that? I didn't loosen the vvt or exhaust sprockets. I had to remove the cams to get the head assembly fixed. |
There should be lots of posts that talk about how to do your timing. Not sure I understand what you mean by timing assembly. There is a cam plate that fits in the drivers sides of the cams and lines them up, and a timing bolt pin that goes in the rear passenger side of the engine for TDC. Usually it helps to make sure by measuring the piston heights... See the other posts for details :-) |
I just wanted a straight answer. There seems to be a lot of ways to do it but which ones are correct and successful. |

If you want to be really fancy (you really don't need to be) use a dial indicator on the piston to find real piston TDC, mark it on your crank from the outside so you can see it, go from there. With the timing cover off you can see the counterweight hitting the pin. It works plenty well, but it's apparent why it isn't an exact TDC locator. |
Thank you! I will try to get one. It sounds a lot safer than using the tdcp alone. I heard bad things and good things about the tdcp. Now for my second question. I was turning the motor over atleast 5 times thinking it didnt want to start from not having spark or not getting gas. So with the crank turning over as much as it did, do i need new crank timing sprockets? I would imagine that those were probably resurfaced by the diamond friction washers. Or should i be ok? |
