How important are heat shields?

Haven't put the two back on that you have to remove when installing a DP. Since they were a PITA to get off I figure unless I should put them back on it would just make life easier if I need to tighten/adjust anything in the future. Should I?

naw, go ahead and leave them off and speed up the heat soaking of your TMIC

buckeyepost 07-01-2011 09:29 AM

Hahaha! Helpful again... you need to get layed or punch a hole in your wall to relieve some of that :zx11pissed:

Laid*

And yes put them on lazy boy.

Lol, I was thinking that was wrong when I typed it. Yeah, I am being lazy about it, I was just curious if they helped that much. My boost temp always seems to be right about 30 hotter than the ambient temp, does that sound about right? I like watching that parm on my DH and how fast the temp drops when the turbo spools.

I have the same car as you (but with heat shields on), and I was curious so I went out and drove the car and observed the temps. When the ambient temp was 94F, my BAT was 113F. I guess that's about in the normal range. I intend to check again in the winter, and see what kind of difference there is.

The heat shield serves no purpose whatsoever...except to shield heat

not very. the penny pinchin engineers at mazda decided to just put them on for looks.

kylec_2003 07-01-2011 09:13 PM

I personally think they should be on but I run with bat temps about 30 higher then intake on a regular basis with a stock exhaust. That is my norm once everything is warm.

buckeyepost 07-02-2011 03:56 PM

ok, ok... I'll stop being a lazy ass and put them back on tomorrow.
