Default How much oil do you normally burn?

So just out of curiosity how much oil do you usually burn? I checked my oil last week and was a quart low after what seemed like just adding a quart maybe 1k miles ago. I'm keeping track now, but I'm hoping I'm not going to fall victim to the smoking turbo or something worse.

My car has never burned any oil I usually check it for the hec of it once a week. Alot of cars burn oil its not a big deal as long as you keep oil in there.

I understand that, but if they normally don't burn any oil, obviously my oil is going somewhere. I don't notice any smoke but then again I haven't necessarily been looking for it.

i have/had a small oil leak at the oil pan drain plug... apparently the washer i bought at autozone isnt very good. I would look around the engine bay for obvious leaks

estimate the number of minutes you spend idling each day, add it up, check your oil at the end of the week and compare the idle time to your estimated oil loss - see if there isn't a correlation
and just look at your plugs - at least this way you are sure if your motor is actually burning it or your oil or it's leaking out the turbo like the other 80% of ms3 owners

about half a quart between 5k oil changes. 5w30 motorcraft with a guart of royal purple.
i just installed occ and during that enjoyable process i had to unhook and move the lower FMIC pipe and had oil in there, maybe a table spoon full.
I need to check my TB for carbon with 24k miles on 08.

Well I wrote down the mileage when I last added oil. Gonna check it every week now and see how much it's burning. I know I've added oil twice since the last oil change and I don't think it's been anymore than 4k miles, maybe even less. Not sure if mazda is gonna see this as a problem however.

Is their noticeable white smoke behind the car in this case? I've seen all the talk about the turbo's but never really gave it much thought. I know a lot of people claiming to get the smoke after removing cats, but what about beforehand?

the root of the problem is a pcv issue that causes oil to not drain from the turbo - over-pressurizing the center section, causing the oil to leak out the seals into the exhaust - Mazda has a online tsb on it - MTOL - 5505 - google it - modifying your exhaust just shows the problem better - a large number of vehicles have the issue - stock or not - my dealer told me he had replaced over 10 when he did mine & all i had was a cbe & sri at the time

He replaced the PCV valve? I thought some dealers didn't even have a part number for the new one yet?

check this out, apparently a guy starting burning oil (alot with blue smoke) before he went boom) are u getting smoke out of your exhaust?

lets not make them correlations just yet please , i burn 1 qt for every 3k miles and no boom with 63k miles...and ive been burning at this rate since 35-40k miles

there is a big difference between burning oil and oil feeding around through the pcv system and caking up everywhere, be careful what u guys read and how you interpret it.

usual burning of oil is caused by either worn valve guides (which I doubt I have with 63k miles) and worn the fuck out rings (which i most certainly believe I do have).

in this car alot of you guys experience oil creeping around everywhere from intake track, pcv system etc and caking up and obviously not returning to the pan upon shut down.

soooo..... determine where your oil is going before you make claims/assumptions

in my case...do the math. I have 63k miles every 3 k I'll drop a qt. .... been like this since 35k miles. ..... i assure u I dont have 9qts caked up anywhere.

Lenny it's funny you mention oil creeping around. When I did my last oil change I put in 5 1/2 qts, 5w 30. I made everything drain out for a good 1/2 hour. Filled her up checked oil and was fine.

Yesterday I checked and the oil level was above max (yes it was on level ground)...so Obviously oil pools somewhere.....interesting..

Sorry to threadjack OP

Alright well I just checked the oil again today. Been about 600 miles since the last quart and it's already 1/2 a quart low.

I also started it up ans watched the exhaust. Besides the normal water vapor coming out in the beginning there wasn't any smoke to speak of. There's also no oil on the ground where I park regularly. I don't know where it's going.

Maybe I should get a downpipe and see what happens? lol

I used to burn oil running mobil 1 or penzoil 5w-30. I just recently made the switch to Rotella 5w=40. I haven't burned a drop of oil since. Knock on wood.

I'm at 27000 miles. I use 5w-30 synthetic. Change every 3000 miles. I check oil every time I re-fuel. I have no leaks, loss of oil between changes or smoking.

I've never noticed a change in oil level, nor any other symptoms that would indicate that my MS6 burns oil.

I've just past the 60k mark, and even after tracking my MS6 (total of 2hrs at like 5,500RPM) I am surprised that it does not burn oil.

I'm just going to reiterate what someone mentioned earlier: find out where the oil is going.

Who in their right minds changes their synthetic oil every 2500 miles. What a waste of time, oil and money.

Anywho, I also broke my car in fast and hard.

And yes I dunno. I've been trying to pay attention to smoke. I never see any on the ground, but maybe I have to pull the stupid fairing thing and see what's up. Maybe pull the intake too and see if there's anything in there.
