Humming/whining noise Half Shaft?

I have been trying to diagnose a humming noise for a bit now and have not found the culprit. I found I had a pretty sloppy TMM and ended up replacing PMM at the same time. Since then, the noise is much worse.
A fairly constant hum/whine starting around 25mph. Sounds like a classic wheel bearing but no play at all but was going to replace them anyway.
While I was ensuring There were no issues with RMM today, I noticed there is a fair bit of play (in and out) in the half shaft.
Should there be in and out play in the half shaft in these cars? Could this cause similar symptoms to a wheel bearing?

Is the noise under load? I know the LSD can be somewhat noisy and I usually hear it when under slight load around 25-35 mph in 3rd and 4th

under all conditions including neutral and clutch in. It is loud from 25mph-70mph+

I had a similar issue. I used one of those fancy microphone contraptions to locate the culprit and was lead to the bearing in the half-shaft support. Replacement was cheap and it got rid of the noise. If not, then wheel bearings and even tire noise are possibilities. A little play in and out is normal.

Could you explain the microphone a bit more? I like this idea but can't seem to find anything other than engine stethoscopes.

Jack up car. Hold spring with one hand and turn wheel with the free hand. You'll feel a vibration through the spring if the wheel bearing is shot

It looks like my right wheel bearing is shot and having it replaced ASAP but am very confident it is more than just wheel bearing. I am also going to try replacing half shaft.

Since the noise does not change with clutch in or in nuetral, is it possible it is internal transmission related?

The fact it isnt changing except with wheel speed, I'd stick with the bearing. The tranny is prob fine, when was the last time you changed your fluid or even checked it? Also, do you have audio since we are just going off of youre original complaint of a loud hum/whine that gets worse with speed? How many miles on this thing?
