I blew my motor

I live in jersey and im looking for a motor to drop into my car,I cant find any for a decent price,i found one for 3300 and thats alot.If u guys can drop some ideas or websights i will appreciate it.

QuickSpool 08-05-2009 01:39 AM

3300 for a whole motor w/ accessories? If so thats not bad at all. I woulds say a used long block will cost 2500-3500. Only if you know someone who got wrecked and the motor is still good can you beat that.

2007speed3 08-05-2009 05:29 AM

have you tried calling some of the bigger shops that work on these cars. I am sure they are always looking for motors..

Darksun280 08-05-2009 05:36 AM

Man james I would have sold you my motor for 1k AND given you these new rods and pistons I had sitting here. NRG would have uninstalled and installed for 1200 and another 400 in getting the crank machined new bearings and putting it back together. it woulda been 3k or less total. since your block it unusable this woulda been your best choice. I did everything on my car for 1900 cause i was able to sell my old motor but you don't have that choice. Next time listen to Craig lol

acidbbg 08-05-2009 06:26 AM

I found this one on Ebay.

It's located in Philly.

Only 11k miles..for $2K.

Darksun280 08-05-2009 07:35 AM

good find. buy it James and sell me the fuel pump off of it lol

SPD6Tuner 08-05-2009 07:38 AM

no way in hell even that has accessories the one i got for 2200 shipped was just a long block lol.

ElBartoRex 08-05-2009 07:59 AM

I am within driving distance of this motor-- my only concern is that it doesn't have the mazdaspeed oil cap which all 2007s had IIRC. Looks like it might be from a MS6?

or cx7. My new motor was from a cx7 only thing you gotta worry about is the turbo is different

ElBartoRex 08-05-2009 08:10 AM

the guy says that it 'runs fine'....how the hell do you know that if its out of the car?

boosted3 08-06-2009 10:39 PM

That was a good move. Now get that set of cp pistons that are on ebay too.

boosted3 08-18-2009 12:26 PM

Alright the motor is in,but there is a ticking noise from the motor, the guy though it was 1 of the lifter that had to fill with oil,but when I got it hope its coming from my fuel pump.and I had themm swap my cpe pump over to this motor.Do ya think they installed it wrong,or it got fucked up when the motor blew

stealthspeed6 08-18-2009 12:32 PM

could be coming from injectors, might be bad o-ring

The guy you bought this motor from is obviously clueless since I dont think any modern 4cyl engine has oil filled lifters.

I really hope you didnt just swap a junk yard engine in without having it checked first, those things can be in terrible condition.

boost != volume

Actually if both turbos are equally efficient, and running the same boost, then the car will make the same power. Only gains from a bigger turbo come from reduced back pressure in the exh mani (resulting in more exhaust removed from the cylinders, improving VE) and cooler BATs resulting from a more efficient turbo... but who wants to get technical about it.

Are you saying the cx7 turbo is smaller ?? although it is a K04 ??? Please explain

wassup61 08-18-2009 02:50 PM

The cx7 turbo is a different trim of ko4

meaning its not as powerful ???

wassup61 08-18-2009 03:04 PM

tuned for more midrange and less topend based on compressor trim. If you look at stock dyno comparisons between a MS6 (performance oriented) vs a CX7 (drivability) youll notice a difference in power delivery.

MZRDISI4 08-18-2009 03:19 PM

The CX-7 compressor is just a bit smaller. Meaning it will spool up faster and respond faster than the Speed KO4. Overall you have less top-end for more bottom and mid-range response.

Just what you want... even MORE 2500 rpm torque.

first off ..... I want to again thank everyone for helping here .. I didnt know the CX-7 turbo had a smaller trim on it .. which I have now read up on and fully understand.. Now that it is all said and done it does make perfect sense .. and here is why.... I have noticed that after the new turbo the car felt great .. it spooled nicely had a good smooth powerband to it .. I idid however notice that at time is felt a little flat on the top end ( duh you dumb mother fucker for not doing more research ) Also, sometimes it hold up the boost as high as it used to unless you have your foot in it more than I previously had to .. although when you put it all the way down you get your 16lbs... So here is where I am now .. I have a MS6 turbo with a goofy shaft in it .. and I have a fully functioning CX-7 turbo installed .. what to do what to do ... any ideas guys ... again .. thanks .. as you can see I donate quite a bit by the stack of my gold bars .. I truly appreciate the help I get here ...

Please tell me you at least ran a compression test on the new motor.

Ticking noise? This motors are notorious for ticking noise.

Be a little more specific..

Did the noise start before or after the swap of the cpe pump?

As others have mentioned....it could be a crappy o ring seal for the injector.
Check for leaks.

I really don't see a problem with using this one until you can manage to get a rebuilt turbo.

The only CX-7 I've read of blowing up was one that was

Piasini tuned, with 22" wheels, TMIC/intake/bov/exhaust (Stg II) and that it was cruising on the freeway when it happened.

Yeah Im going to use it for now .. the car runs pretty good .. Ill just get the MS6 one rebuilt and trade it out for the cx7 one as payment ... I should be able to pull it off somehow ...

jwdp54 08-21-2009 11:04 PM

i'm guessing you put the pg fuel pump on the new motor? if so you'll have a ticking noise. at first i thought my car was knocking when i installed it in january but til this day i still have it and know it's from the fuel pump

Darksun280 08-22-2009 04:40 AM

My fuel pump was the loudest god damn thing in the world. im so glad I just took it off. it made trouble shooting impossible
