I may have found the source of the clunk

Wow, another ooppsie, twice I'd planned on having the kid watch my engine while I let the clutch out, but we'd get to working on his car and .... I'd forget.
So yesterday I go to put in the nice mounts I scored from JCM07 (Thanks again Sir) the JBR PMM is quite pretty, (I guess machinists from Illinios are inherently good):wiggle:

Tranny mount was essentially fine, in that it was intact at least

the passenger side, well. one of the studs had worked out of the block, jacking the threads pretty bad, (JB weld FTW )
and the mount rubber was completely sheared. and my dumb ass was driving it like that

all better now

And the fluid everywhere didn't alert you to a problem right away?

A quick search on here would have alerted you to what was wrong.

Please tell me you didn't use jb weld to fix a stripped out stud on the timing cover. Jb weld to hold up hundreds of pounds of drivetrain and 300+ ft lbs of torque is a scary thought.

nope, never noticed the mount fluid, but never looked for it either. I'd been into the AC swapping out compressors several times, so that area had been sprayed with pag oil anyway

the stud wasn't truly stripped, I think it had backed out and the top few threads were pretty wallered out, but farther down, not so bad. I blasted the debri out with brakekleen dabbed the the bore with JB and retorqued the stud. So, yeah, using JB to glue a stick in a hole would proly fail, but not the case here

I just wanted to point out that mebbe MOD # 1 should be all three mounts, not just the rear

I have 90K miles, but never been to a dragstrip, and launched hard proly less than 100 times total, and never removed that part, so, really shouldn't have failed like that

I have a theory that just running a lower mount speeds up the process of the oem TMM & PS mounts wearing out. If you think about it the upper mounts would be exposed to a different range of motion when you stiffen up the lower mount.

I think your theory is entirely reasonable and well supported by failure rates

Do a balance shaft delete and turn on your a/c and you will be in for a real surprise.
