wait a sec....

that last line.

what is that supposed to mean? the drivetrain warranty is >40k, so what's the problem? if i have my car at 40k, and the clutch goes, i will get it replaced by mazda. it certainly wouldn't be my fault and the car has a drivetrain warranty. my car gives them no reason to not to. i believe he might have forgotten that the drivetrain isn't 3/36.

ha, but what's the actual problem with the flywheel? the post is sorta cryptic; it says that they compared i guess the FW/pilot bearing assembly to a new one and it was identical...the same. and then it says it's being resurfaced by hand, whatever that means (fuckin' sandpaper?) so it suddenly had an issue with the facing? that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure the flywheel and clutch are not included in the drivetrain warranty. They're in that "wear item" category. Life's a bitch. If your clutch goes at 10k miles, you WILL NOT get it replaced by Mazda, at least without a good fight. You could spend every other weekend at the strip doing burnouts for all they know.

MAn I'm starting to realize alot of things don't make sense on this car but just by the way I know our clutch flywheel setup works and when he was getting the vibrations and sounds I instantly thought dual mass fail Flywheel issue.

Ok so if you read the message that Speed3 posted up there I state that my flywheel was not the issue. It is being resurfaced though....by hand. You cannot use a machine to resurface these flywheels......fucking dual mass BS. It is still believed that the clutch was the problem. The mechanic said that some of the bolt on the flywheel were not torqued correctly. He believes that this resulted in uneven wear on the clutch. We will see tomorrow when he is done putting it back together. I am honestly skeptical that it is gonna fix it. I was hoping when he opened it up he would find a broken spring but that never happened. Either which way I have pre-ordered a Fidanza flywheel and hope to have that here within two weeks. It seems like a waste putting my car back together now but not having a 100% arrival date on the flywheel is leaning me towards reinstalling the stock equipment. I will do the flywheel install myself on my own time......however......the car is not fixed yet....keep your fingers crossed.

The car will be back together around 4pm tomorrow....I will update then.

Few notes...

Mazda car's have a 12,000 mile 1 yr adjustment period which covers 100% of items on the car, including wear items such as the clutch, flywheel, brake pads, etc.

After this period, no wear item is covered, unless the problem can be traced to a factory issue (such as a bolt not being torqued properly).

Most people don't realize, that the adjustment period covers suspension "adjustments" as well. You can technically get your car a 4 wheel alignment for free prior to the 12k mark, as long as you haven't modified the suspension in any way shape or form.

If it was me, I'd push for a new flywheel over a resurfaced one. I don't really trust resurfaced parts. If tech's can't resurface a rotor properly, how are they going to handle flywheels?

My car is so far out of warranty it wouldnt even begin to be worth the hassle. I am fine with the resurfaced because I know it is temporary until the Fidanza flywheel goes in. BTW I am on West Coast time so be patient for the final outcome.

are you sure none of those rods are bent? I had the exact same issue 3 days before I blew up. After that, everything was replaced so I couldn't tell you what exactly it was. I too thought it was the clutch flywheel at the time, but looking back at it, I don't think it was.

Pm me if you'd like. Good luck.

Yeah thanks......trust me I am skeptical of the clutch/flywheel being the problem. I checked all the rods.....doesnt mean they couldnt be bent but there sure wasnt any obvious signs. Did you do the same? Now that you have mentioned this and I am not picking up the car until Monday I am more freaked out. Shit......
