This isn't like cabin vibes, it's a loud stacato noise almost like an air wrench ratchet sound. Seems to be more likely to occur if it's cooler in the evenings (45-50 degrees) and it's been a longer drive 45 minutes to an hour. It seems to be increasing in both volume and regularity, which concerns me. I can make the noise disappear bumping the idle from ~750 to ~1000 RPMs with the throttle.

When we installed it, we torqued it to 60 ft/lbs and used lock-tite.

When I first heard the rattle (about a week ago), I got it up on ramps the next day and checked the bolts and they seem fine. But at that time, I couldn't get it to make the noise, so I couldn't isolate the source.

Is this something that should just go away with time or should I try to reset the upright bolt or something?

Thanks for any suggestions. I don't mind letting it settle in, but I can't have my new car sounding like an old time gatling gun .
Well glad someone else is having this issue. I am swapping out my Medievil mount for my stocker to see if the noise goes away. I have the EXACT same noises you are describing. It was fine at first and then this noise just started up. I also notice that it gets a lot worse as the length of drive time increases. I also checked the bolts and everything was nice and tight.

I have the smaller sleeve, and am hoping that the longer sleeve will somehow alleviate the problem. I requested the longer sleeve a month ago and hoping it arrives soon.

I had a customer have the same issues you guys are having. It wasn't the mount that is causeing the noise. Check you heat shields and exhuast/DP bolts, they were the case on his car. And from the sounds from what you guys are describing, it might be the same thing.

Kinf of ironic that it started with the MM install. I swapped out the mount for my stock mount, and the noise went away. I will keep waiting for the longer sleeve...

Yesterday I discovered a new piece of this puzzle. I can be sitting at a light and no rattle noise. If I turn the wheel just a bit, the noise starts and I can usually make it stop by turning the wheel back. May have something to do with the rack and subframe which I'll have to educate myself on.

When you turn the wheel, the power steering pump puts load on the engine and drop the revs a tiny bit. It will continue to put load on the engine if the wheels are not rolling to take out the tension. That could be all it needs to cause the engine to vibe enough for the rattle.

I believe I was one of the first to install and post about their redesigned mount on MSF. I had zero problems with mine. It's a rear mount that doesn't bear the weight of the engine. It's easily removeable(just use alot of PB blaster or WD-40) if you want to go back to stock or another mount.

Please PM the Medieval Rep on this forum, and I will contact them again on Monday to make sure you get one.

The Medieval Rep was contacted on the forum and I was instructed to send an email. Emails were sent and I was told that they probably got stuck in customs. Weird how items ordered from China and Japan after these sleeves arrived already.

I was told a second set was sent out via USPS. I asked for an item number to track but got no response.

How long ago did you email them? Medieval is currently having issues shipping out orders, but they are working ongetting them fixed ASAP.

I know you're weren't the only one waiting for the longer sleeve. I'm sorry.

First email was now 6-7 weeks ago, 2nd email was 2-3 weeks ago.

Not your fault, so no need to apologize. However a little honesty would have been better than a string of lies about shipping dates and times.

I wouldn't worry about installing the mount. Last week I reset the main upright bolt and for the most part the loud clang has gone away. I'm gonna drive it for another week to see what happens and then I'll probably grease the bushing to address the squeek. Maybe go to 80 ft/lbs like someone mentioned in this thread.

I still get the loud clang if I turn the wheel when stopped or sometimes if the wheel is turned as I stop. Vibes at idle are smooth as can be normally, but a little rough and noisy with the AC on.

Overall, the mount is a vast improvement as far as the feel of the car, especially when accelerating hard and upshifting quick or rev matching/heel toe/double clutching downshifts.

My only mods are shifter bushings, MM, Cobb SRI, RX-8 Wheels with Potenza RE01R Track/Street Tires and I can really put the power down and throw the car around alot more than stock.

Go ahead and do it. You can always change it out if you don't like it after a few weeks. I'm pretty noob when it comes to modifying cars and it's just working out the kinks and getting used to tradeoffs. But I love the improved drivability and I think it's worth a little noise and futzing around with it.

I'm not really sure how loud it is outside, but with the SRI/Turbo making whooshing noises and the mount increasing engine noise in the cabin, the car feels very sporty. Some people understand that, some don't, so if I have a woman in the car or biz associates, I keep it under 2500 and the mods effects aren't as pronounced.

Around town in traffic I drive fairly sedately and the car does that fine, but get it out on the open road or in the mountains and the mods really come together with the OEM engineering to make it fun as hell.

I just put my Medieval rear mount in. That thing was a BITCH!!! REALLY should have come with a small tube of grease or something. I got it ALMOST all the way in and it just stopped. I could get the bolt in the bottom hole, but it wouldn't go all the way through. So I had to pull and pray and pull some more and almost couldn't get it back out. But I put some more oil on it (for the third time) and it FINALLY slid in. I haven't really driven it yet, just out of the garage and back into the driveway. But the vibes aren't nearly as bad as I thought they'd be. And if they're supposed to lessen after a little while then I think this mount is going to be awesome.

So I was still getting a little unwanted noise and I went to tighten the bolt to 80 ft/lbs. The front edge of the upper bushing was torn away from the bushing that is within the cross member. I looked it over and tightened it down anyway. Darkstar, can I get a replacement for just that piece? It's only been on the car for a few thousand miles.

Given the other issues with Medeival that I have seen recently, maybe I should get a whole different mount. I'll drive it like this for a few days, but not entirely comfortably.

we don't carry any replacements, you would have to go directly to MEdieval themselves.

That video a while back of the first medieval mount is mine, but Darkstar took care of it for me!

I installed the dogbone (black bushings) right after that and its been on ever since. It was a bitch to get on, even marked up the paint/powdercoating. Oh well on that. But I installed it to the 85ft lbs that the factory manual states (68.7-85.9ft-lbs). I haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood).

Maybe the 40ft-lbs was too little and allowed the mount to move too much and caused some of the noises/ripping?

My mount was making a thunk sound on start-up. I tightened the rear bolt and it made it all nice again. Is anyone else still using the Medieval dogbone RMM? I don't want to have to shell out more money for an AWR or other mount when I've already spent $75 between the Corksport inserts and now this mount that I bought 2nd hand (before all the Medieval shit was hitting the fan).

i still have the rear mount, and also trans mount. i'm planning to replace both in the next few months.

i also recently tightened the bolt on the rear mount. the mediephail-recommended 40ft-lb for the rear bolt was seriously not working.

Well, as long as the metal doesn't fail on me or something stupid, I'll just leave it in now that it's torqued properly. I think I did 60 ft*lbs at first since I'd read about some people having problems at 40.

i torqued it to 75ft-lb. i noticed an increase in engine vibration, but i actually like the difference.

the bushing is probably going to fail before the metal. of course, mediephail claimed they had no failures on the rear mount. but there were bushing failures on the side mount.

SU mounts in my near future...
