JBarone SSP and/or COBB STS?

Hi! New member from Sweden here, haven't got around to post a new member thread yet but thought I'd wait until I have some good pics of the car before doing that.

I have ordered a Jbarone SSP about a week ago that should show up soon, and now I got a good deal on the COBB Double Adjustable STS. I couldn't find any info on how these two are combined so now I'm asking you. Do I need the COBB STS when I have the SSP? Or the other way around, which is the best, should I go with just the STS, just the SSP or both? :dunno:

Thanks in advance!

You don't need both and probably won't work well together. When I installed my TWM SHort shift kit I had to take the JBarone kit off cause the shifting was too short and sometimes would lock me outta gear (not a problem with the JBarone kit just a problem trying to run both at once). The Cobb Adjustable kit is a full replacement of the OEM shifter set up. You'd be better off with the Cobb BUT since u already have the JBarone SSP on the way just save urself some money and use it. You should find it will suit what u need. U may need some solid shift bushings and/or to adjust ur shift cables to get the right feel but all in all it's a great product with little to no bad consumer review

Thanks,
yeah I read nothing but good on the SSP, and I wasn't really looking for the COBB STS, I just happened to find a good deal on one... So the question is, which one is the best, just the COBB STS or just the JBarone... hmm :)
I have the solid shifter bushings already btw!

Jamie has said the TWM and SSP are now compatible. You'll have to "fine tune" your shifter. He has a video on how to do this. I would PM him directly and see what he has to say on the matter.

There were some flaws when the COBB STS came out. There is another thread floating around (posted a day or two ago), asking questions about the COBB, find it, there are more answers in there.

Don't see many running the COBB STS these days! Was always a pretty looking piece.

I searched even more now and found a couple of threads that I originally missed. Seems like there's a risk that the throws get almost too short. Guess I will try with each of them separately first and then see if the combination is drivable.
Thanks for the input!
And yeah, one of the reasons I can't pass the deal on the STS is how damn pretty it looks ;)

Remember, you will not see the STS at all. Pretty means nothing.

I would go with the SSP, but I'm afraid of what's been said, even with the "fine tuning." Plus, I like the height of my TWM; the benefit (to some) is that you can retain stock height with the SSP, with the reduction in throws.

Tapawhat?

The COBB STS and my SSP will work together. It does take some adjusting of both the COBB STS and the cables to get it just right. The throws are very short, so if that is what you're looking for then go for it.

Thanks,
Jamie

I have both the Cobb and the SSP (with weight) and they work fantastic together. If you're looking for really short throws then it's the way to go. From the center of the top of the shift knob resting in 1st and then resting in 4th it's 2 1/4 inches or 57mm. There is a little bit of play in each gear so going from neutral to 1st (pressed up) and then to 4th (pressed down) it's more like 2 5/8" or 67mm (between 1st and 4th). I made some minor adjustments but my shifter cable seemed to be set pretty good from stock.

I will say though having a heavy shift knob (like the sexy James Barone one) will help take away some of the resistance when shiting as well as a stiffer RMM. I added both at the same time so I can't say which helped more but my god this car is so much more fun to drive now! The rear sway helped with that too.

Today I installed the STS, the SSP was installed a couple of weeks ago. The combination is awesome, the throws were short already with the SSP but this is way better. Shorter and more important there is no doubt that every gear has gone in. With only the SSP I sometimes hade to go back to neutral and try again when going in to gear, even after adjusting it. But this combo is really sweet. :bigok:
