Default Jbarone SSP with a STS?

Anyone do this with a Cobb STS or TWM STS? Would love to hear impressions from these people and if it makes shifting better or if it just makes shifts obnoxiously short.

J said
COBB shifter needs to be set in the middle. Not the longest setting, not the shortest setting. The few that have done this like it, and yes the throws are short. I've also been told that the gate alignment needs to be adjusted as well which is not unusual with a shift plate.

I have it with a twm on my speed6 and love it. Throws are just where I want them and doesn't feel all that "heavy" compared to stock, just WAY shorter!

damn, everything I've read on this combo has lead me to believe it's pure fail. With the MS3 that is. I think Jamie and Bioevolve each tried it and said it was too tight.

I've been talking to him about this the last few days, because I do want. He said that they are now able to be combined due to the new design of his most recent plate, the one on the site now. I don't know what version you had though.

OK let me clarify things here a bit. The shift plates themselves have never changed from the first day I started selling them. What has changed is that I've added the taller mount for the ball stud. (retrofit kit) This mount has accomplished a few things...The boot no longer rubs, some clearance issues with certain models has been resolved, shifting is smoother and, as it turns out it works very well with the TWM as FAGWAGON has mentioned. I installed it on his car and he's been running this combination for a little over a week. I was amazed at how well it felt and the throws are very short. It's pretty damn awesome. With that said, he is running it with a heavy shift knob which I think makes even that much more awesome. I'm hoping to see him this weekend and get some actual #'s on the reduction, video, and pics. I've not said anything because I want to be sure this is going to be something everyone will enjoy.

FAGWAGON...You meeting us Sunday?

Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie, Fag(wagon).
It seems to me that you may need an independent third party opinion to confirm your results. With the economic state being what it is, these services can be rather expensive. Due to my selfless concern, I would be more than happy to lend my services free of charge. Just send a TWM STS and E4 Heavyweight knob and I'll post my findings...

*sigh* I know, I suck at life... lol

Very interesting. I just took off my SSP and installed a TWM (liked the SSP but just wanted to try a shorter lever). I might have to try it out this weekend.

Tyler, if for some reason I don't like them together, the SSP is yours.

I have a TWM sts, bushings, and their heavy ass knob (620g?) The shift plate alone felt like it delivered shorter throws than the TWM shifter so I'm interested to see what happens with both.
I might be able to take a video tomorrow. TWM throws vs. TWM w/SSP.

I'm running the SSP with my Cobb STS...my SSP has the stand off. Compared to stock shifter with SSP, it's not as snick-snick...but I also plan to get a shifter extender and perhaps a heavier knob.

So eventho throws are short now (Cobb STS is on its longest throw setting), once I run the shifter extender I might move the STS up one notch.

You'll have the same setup as FAGWAGON if you do put the SSP on. I'm sure you'll be very impressed. And yes the SSP delivers shorter throws then the TWM.

I assume you've already tried aligning the shifter as well?

Yes...I adjusted it when I got the STS, and I adjusted it again when I got the SSP in...I had an odd grind into 6th 2 days ago, so I might adjust it a little more.

nice to hear you have new results.

Yes 3/16 to be exact. That was shortly after the retrofit kits started going out. I had not even thought of revisiting this combination until fagwagon asked about trying it on his car.

Like a two dollar whore....I like it!!

If he decides to keep it and you'd like to try one with your COBB STS, you can pick up a kit from me. If you don't like it I'll refund your money; you just pick up the return shipping.

Thanks,
Jamie

I installed it on his car and he's been running this combination for a little over a week. I was amazed at how well it felt and the throws are very short. It's pretty damn awesome. With that said, he is running it with a heavy shift knob which I think makes even that much more awesome. I'm hoping to see him this weekend and get some actual #'s on the reduction, video, and pics. I've not said anything because I want to be sure this is going to be something everyone will enjoy.

Saweet! I'm back here for the summer, I'll probably be at the pavilions next weekend. I'm still waiting on my oil fitting so thats a no-go this weekend. I smoked the place out last time hahah.

I'd definitely like to feel the twm/ssp combo.

Okay, so I tried it. I did a short 10 minute drive in traffic through all the gears. It's definitely tighter and takes more effort to get into each gear. Getting into 5th is easier, getting into 6th is pretty hard. I haven't done any fine tuning with the shifter yet. It doesn't feel very smooth, there are a couple notches when getting into each gear. I'll give it a couple more days.

Yes, TWM sts, bushings and their Big Type R knob (620g). I still have the stock crappy tranny fluid and I don't really plan on changing it.

I never made any adjustments when I just had the SSP, either. I will say that going into 1st and 2nd feels pretty good using the combo. You can definitely feel that you're going into each gear. I was worried that the throw would be so ridiculously short that the stick would still be vertical, but there's still enough throw that you can tell what gear you're in.

If you have the time make the adjustment and let us know what you think. On Fag's car it was good to out of the box. Some are, some aren't.
