JBR Side Motor mount installed!

Just installed the motor mount(s) today!

Bought the JBR SMM 80 Duro on saturday and it arrived today in the morning!
:] arrived so fast probably because I live about 300 miles from where james ship out his product. Anywho, before i said anything about my motor mount, my friend/mechanic thought this motor mount was from japan. Why? Because he admire the welds so much, he kept questioning me whether or not it's from japan, even though i told him it's made in the USA. He wouldn't believe me.

What I already have on my car that cause the car to vibrate prior to install?
SURE R3 street rear engine mount. It's already been broken in, and have 5k miles on it.
The vibrate is really not noticeable unless I turn on the AC.

After installing the Jbr SMM 80 Duro
The vibration didn't go up that much.... It's about equivalent to having the AC on minus 75% (WITH AN AFTERMARKET RMM)
Drive-ability wise, the shifts are much more CRISP. And you don't feel the engine moving as much. It's also a lot easier to get the car rolling now. (using less gas)
As a result..
I am very pleased with this motor mount, the vibration is minimal and the drive-ability is so much better.. I myself couldn't explain better on how this mount really is, it's definitely worth 165$. Also!! it's a perfect bolt on! You guys gotta buy it in order to FEEL what I am trying to say.

After driving with the JBR SMM for about 130 miles, i went back to my mechanic to install my TRZ transmission mount. (the same day SMM was installed)

Bought the TRZ TMM for 50$ off a local that lives about 110 miles away. [round trip]
I was surprised by the design of this motor mount. It looks like a sheet metal with a bushing (which it is kinda..) I asked James a week prior on what he thinks about the TRZ mount. and where's what he said,

"The TRZ is a great mount and for $50 I would say jump on it"

James himself recommend me some other company's product, 8 weeks prior to the release of his transmission motor mount. Because of this, I am definitely sticking to JBR products. When his transmission motor mount is out, I am definitely going to sell this TMM and get the JBR TMM!

Okay! enough of me talking and appreciative thoughts.

After installing the TRZ TMM, i would say. Shifting got crisper(er). You can definitely hear transmission whine. It's really not that noticable like some people say it, but it's definitely there if you listen hard to it. Vibration went up another 25% ish.

OVERALL.
If you have a low DURO rear motor mount, and when you turn on the AC. The vibration from having the AC on is a lot stronger than having NO ac with the JBR SMM. (sorry if i dont make sense). Even after installing the TRZ TMM, the vibration DID NOT increase much.

Sorry for such long paragraphs and some non sense. All of this is coming straight from my head without really thinking. I'm just in a hurry to go back out and drive the car around couple times. If anyone have any questions, i'll try to answer! (: AND HURRY AND GET THE JBR SMM BEFORE THE SALE IS OVER.

The JBR SMM didn't come with washers, but if you're talking about the washers that were on the OEM SMM, we placed it on top of the JBR SMM, not between the chassis and the SMM.

James posted up the install instructions, here's a link to it.

EDIT, if you're talking about the washer that is needed for the ground. There's the info posted on the link above!

Could've pm'd me for that, it's place on top of the bushing. Along with couple drop of red loctite on the threads.

The ONLY place to put it, is on TOP of the mount.

mason 09-05-2011 05:09 PM

thanks man. just wondering if it was better on the bottom for some reason. doing install this week

vrspeed10 09-05-2011 05:21 PM

So you have rmm, smm & tmm. Is there any benefit to replacing that many mounts? Most just do the rmm. When you say it vibrates is that just at idle? I know when I had my msp I just did the rmm and went you went wot it felt as if the engine was in the dash.

If you want your transmission to fall, then yes, it's best on the bottom.

I actually replaced all mines because my TMM was busted, The side motor mount from JBR because it's cheap, and RMM because everyone recommended it.

This led to all 3 being replaced. The only thing i regret about adding these motor mount is losing the stock feeling.

Ok...

...replacing stock mounts with stiffer better mounts will invariably result in the loss of the "stock feeling"...

Anyhow, I thought the point was to rid one's car of the:

1) "stock" engine movement resulting in wheel hop...

2) "stock" knock of engine slapping the firewall...

3) "stock" sloppy shifter engagement (2nd and 3rd gears)...

4) "stock" destruction of the couch when stock mount(s) fail...

But, alas I know what you are referring to... You are jonesing for the "stock" no vibes - less noisy "feeling" of the factory cradled couch...

Buck up and enjoy your heightened sense of driveability versus "soft and gentle" "stock" factory ride. It may not be soft... but it's better.

Updated review.

After driving on all 3 aftermarket mounts for about 800 miles
(JBR SMM 80 Duro, SURE RMM Street, TRZ TMM)

I'd be lying if I say I love these mounts so much. But I'd also be lying if i say i hate them.

With them my shifting got so much better. No more jerkiness.
But however. I did have a lot of jerkiness after installing the mount. because shifting the car is somewhat different. It's a lot less forgiving in a way.

If I don't shift correctly, it's more noticable in cabin than it was without the TMM & SMM.
It's a driver error which I learned to correct in the last 800 miles. Now my shifting is a lot smoother.

Vibration wise, it settle down by a bit. Pedal vibration is slightly gone, steering wheel vibration is still the same as it is with just RMM.

Getting the car to start rolling however. vibration is still vibratious. (NOT A WORD BUT WHATEVER) after getting the car to move.. is similiar to stock but more SOLID like.
It's one of those mods that make it feels like you gained more horsepower but you don't.

I love that feeling. Make the car feels more smooth, stable, solid, faster, kess rocking when shifting, etc.

For all of you guys that are consider upgraded mount and already have rear motor mount, just proceed and get the next 2 mounts. It's noticable but the upside is more superior than the downside.

I'm currently at work and I'm bored as fk. 1/2 the shiz i say probably doesnt make sense but all i gotta say is.

Get it, You won't regret it.
(SORRY THE REVIEW CAN'T BE BASE ON JUST THE JBR SMM, MAINLY BECAUSE I INSTALLED MY TMM SHORTLY AFTER INSTALLING SMM. I SHOULD JUST CHANGE THE TITLE TO 3 AFTERMARKET MOUNTS REVIEW! BUT WHATEVER.)

Yeah... you reply a bit too early. I was writing another review about these mounts.
I love these mounts enough that I won't be going back to stock. But I'm planning to replace the SURE RMM and TRZ TMM for JBR's high duro mounts when the JBR TMM is out.

Then again... I can't read your mind and know there would be a more developed followup post...

That said, way to contribute to the forum and kudos for converting to all @jbarone JBR mounts. Keep up the good work!
