Default Just installed PTP internals..and problem

This is the email i sent to PTP regarding my problem, i want to post it here to get your ideas as to what the problem is, thanks.

A couple weeks ago i bought your mazdaspeed3 fuel pump internals, i installed them over the weekend and followed your install process to the T. After the intall i let the car idle for about 20min and over the weekend i drove the car for the initial break in period. which was about 120 miles. I did a few pulls yesterday and the internals seemed to be doing great. Then today im driving to work normal everyday driving and i go to pass someone. I had my ap monitoring knock at the time, when i go to pass the car hesitates and goes pretty lean so i let off, i got no knock so i switched to fuel pressure and holy shit its down at 51!!! so i get into the slow lane and about 15 seconds later it seems its back to normal.. then about 5 miles after that just cruising it goes back down into the 50s... sorry for the long email but i want you to know exactly what is happening so you can diagnose the problem. Plz let me know what i need to do.

our cars can run at idle (assuming you disengaged the clutch right after it happened) with just 50psi? I know it's normally in the mid 400's at idle.

i was cruising at the time and had just hit the gas to slowly accelerate (i wasnt mashing it and downshifting) im sure i got fuel cut because of it thats why it hesitated hard, i imediatly pushed the clutch, got back over and resumed cruising...but yah, it didnt die

you are supposed to vary the rpms through out the rev range. If you have been granny shifting during the break in and then mash it, that might be the problem. This is just my theory.

n/m, just saw that were light accelerating. like i said just a theory.

well its pretty hard to keep the boost low (per the instructions) and vary the rpms that much...which im pretty sure they said nothing to the effect of hammering it up to 5000 then letting off, but, really ive only done two good pulls since the break in period.

Youre right, its not easy to vary the rpms that much. I also never said i hammered it to 5000. Thats why its hard to vary the rpms because I got to 5000rpm's on light throttle and I never hit boost at all. You have to drive totally different than what you are used to.

I installed mine not too long ago. Everything went smooth and i followed the directions to a T. Idled 20 mins and then rolled onto the high way (staying out of boost) and as soon as i hit 4th gear 50 psi cut (i didnt even really touch the gas either). I limped to the next exit. It took me about 30 miles to not get any cutting while not even boosting..

I was able to do 1st-3rd gear and had to work into 4th gear eventually. I literally started at 2k and gradually rolled to 5.5k a few times and it was much better but like i said it took 30 miles. You look like an idiot driving around fast and then slow varying rpms but its what you need to do. I have not yet had an issue with them since and i hope it stays that way.

If you think one cut was discouraging try getting it everytime you hit the gas at all in 4th gear... Keep at it. Im sure they will say to do another 100 mile break in... Just make sure you are doing 3k-5k pulls up and down with no boost, it will take a lot of getting used to.

im really not convinced that another "idle break in" is giong to help...i just took it out to get lunch and did what you said...and it happend again once, i got a blip of 51 psi. It really scares me cuz im sure that if it keeps doing this im gonna blow my motor to shreads.lol.

Just be light on the throttle. The load will be low, so if your psi drops, it will be fine.

ill be damned if it takes me that long to work this shit out...i just did a 25 min drive doing the light throttle to 5000 rpm...usually it was from 2500-5500 rpm in 4th then id shift into 6th and coast till 2500 rpm and do it again...not the easiest thing to do especially in rush hour

FUCK breaking that pump in. If I saw 50psi on my pump I'd rip that fucker right off and it would be in a box back to John. That fuel pump pump is nothing to fuck around with, it's not worth causing serious damage to your motor man.

lenny the car has been parked since January.

I managed to pay her off a few months back and picked up a new carefree ride. Ill start fucking around again this summer when the weather gets nice.

The PTP is shit. people can blame me all you want for installing wrong but i got 2 preassembled pumps. the first one became SEIZED, it would take pop eye to prees the spring in after i took it out after 500 miles.

The current pump i did the ricer break in for 200 miles, i then took a trip to ny 1200 miles long.

the pump seized on me in NYC traffic very dangerous situation, i could of gotten ran over by a tractor trailer due to POS pump.

ill be back in ny in may ill try to """""""let it idle again for 30 minutes as that is the new fix"""" and get the car running again. it sucked as i hadn't been able to drive wot for months of a failing pump then to only have weeks of a pump that is incapable of being broken in. its terrible, PTP you are doing the right thing but i dont know what the issue is with my pump. I thought it might have to due with the pump itself that i have, as it was the same pump both times, but honestly i have no idea.

end of rant, and anther glass of wine...

Tight tolerances are essential for this to work but, there was a problem with supply, I believe, earlier this year, when some pump parts were machined in cold temps and failed QC when measured at higher temps, iirc. PtP followed this up and solved the problem. It meant having to wait for a while to get pumps or internals. This could explain a pump siezure as the parts would grow slightly at higher temps and they might hit interference fit.

YAH, they are not returning my email...second one today...every time i read their product description on the website it pisses me off more and more. I need to vent...this weekend i will probably take them out and put the stockers back in...they were just fine, i hate wasting my time and money.
