Markings inside engine block... 1 Attachment(s) i have a block and inside the block i have hand looking scribed numbers/letters. i think its in the casting. anyone els have this ? some fool on mazda6 club.. posted this about it.. I think he is full of shit.... "the markings are from prototype blocks that are for various trials (machining, heat treatment, cold crack testing etc). The OEM's typically toss these blocks due to the fact they were hand assembled and of unknown quality but mazda decided to use them.... not illegal as they are their blocks but poor practice. I know this because of my career...... I am also actually never going to buy another mazda product because of this. Even though it wasn't the root cause of failure; If Mazda's policies ok taking huge risks like using these blocks in there top end flagship car i am scared of what they ok everywhere else." |
Who said that on 6club?? Sounds full of shit to me. It's sad 6club is full of newb 2nd/3rd string owners of their MS6 anymore. All the traffic there is the same shit that was posted 4-6 years ago when the MS6 first came out. It's kids picking up used MS6's for cheap and NOW we'll start seeing the influction of rice. Only a small handful of OG's left over there & I'm pretty sure they just lurk for old time's sake :/ I'll check my block today. I think I remember seeing marks like that somewhere. It may have been the Dtec block I picked up but I'm pretty sure I saw it. Looks like its just a serial # type of deal. |
subbing :) |
i remember seeing the same on my block. i meh'd. |
My response was the same. It doesn't matter. I want a link to the thread on 6club where that guy thinks it's a "huge risk" to cast a lot/serial number into a huge chunk of metal. I've felt like being more of an asshole lately. Maybe MSF actually is starting to rub me off...wait, did I say that right? |
did you guys hear about that ricer who put a chinese turbo in his ms6? fucking noobs looking for cheap power. dude was asian too, what a surpise |
LOL no but I did read a similar story on the G35 forums.. ;) |
Forged two engines. Both had markings. Meh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Link to the thread, direct to post quoted above. There is a reference in the second post of that thread as well, where he posts a pic of the number. Not sure that what he does in his job can be applied to what Mazda does. An MS6 update (welcome to my nightmare) - Mazda 6 Forums : Mazda 6 Forum / Mazda Atenza Forum |
Ahh I remember that thread. Looks like he knows what he's doing. That statement was retarded tho. -shrug |
I know way back in the day Ford engineers used to hand stamp experimental parts....but that was 40 years ago. Could it be the same, now? IDK, but there is some factual history to what he is saying. BUT, those don't actually look "hand scribed" into the block, but rather an imprint in the mold that was carried over into the casting. |

who made you a mod anyway? you have no idea what you're talking about and you are not mature enough to be a mod. if you knew anything at all you would remember a respected member of MSF got a china charger from ebay to test out on his speed 3.. the thing made some nice power and held up ... maybe to this day. i'm gonna write an email to haltech about you. |

I said this and you can take from it what you will. I will say this, In production of a block the sand cores that make the core package are not touched by hand "IN MOST CASES". If the cores are to small or oddly shaped this is then made a manual load station. The crankcase core of this block is neither and there is no reason to handle these by hand. I could be wrong, But my block is marked with PT58MT Which i would scribe for "part 58 machine trial" When you combine that with the HORRIBLE speeds and feeds that were used in my block i feel there is some level of proof there. Again i never said this was a bad motor, or the reason for failure (it wasn't) it is just shitty that they sent it down the motor line. Again i could be wrong... |

well i would like to clear up that the markings are casted into the block not scribed.. as in someone hand scribed them in.. |
