I called Weber Mazda in south Edmonton today and they confirmed that they did receive notice that they were to use 5W-40 in the MZR motors from now on.

i didn't read this thread but what i know is that they can't just change things like that to the required didn't read if it was required or not using 5-30 will not void your warranty as its printed int he service manual owners manual and every other publication unless they do it properly with an amendum to it and its sent to every owner like a recall if you will.

i wikll keep running my 5w30 ester with no issues at all. sorry mazda is in the wrong in this one

Funny thing is in my 07 manual, it specifically calls for 5/20.

Its possible. I tried to develop a relationship with my dealer by letting them do oil changes, this way i would have less bullshit to deal with taking the car in with mods for warranty work.

Problem is, they insisted on putting 5/20 in and i basically walked in the back to pull my car out before they decided to give me the 5/30 like i had requested. I allowed them to do the first 3 oil changes with dino oil before i went synthetic.

Now ive gone to some places and in all of there computers, the MZR tells them 5/20.

My manual says 5w20 for non turbo charged and 5w30 for turbos. although it is confusing as hell to read

I just put in 0w-30 the other day. Not too worried about anything because the Euro Castrol is more a 40 weight than a 30 based on UOA's from bitog.com

it is illegal though....

just like the reason i can't do a damn thing if a customers engine blows on a 09 maxima for using conventional oil beucase nissan fucked up the owners manual and service manual but your damn sure the 2010 has the correct oil requirement in there.

According to a Mazda tech, Mazda is redesigning the EGR for the MS3. I'm unsure if that includes the current ones on the street, or for the new ones. I'm curiouse to know if the EGR is the cause of the pooping of these motors.

He also mentioned that we should continue to use 5w-30 unless there are burning issues, in which 5w-40 should be used. Mazda techs have been told to put 5w-40 in higher mileage 07 & 08 vehicles with the 2.3 disi engine.

the only way it would effect current ones on the street is if there is a driveability issue, and a strict TSB would go into effect.

IMO egr is not needed and i like my check engine light.

what they are doing with the oil recommendations is very stupid its one or the other unless an amendement is made they can't do shit to tell you what oil to put in your car other than whats mentioned in the ESM and the owners manual.

It's not like they're going to void your warranty if you use 5w-30 like your manual states, it's just that they are switching to thicker oil for their dealers... Nothing set in stone... Yet.

Well the 2010 MS3 just hit US ports this week and should be at dealers in a few weeks. I'm sure we can get a new 2010 MS3 owner to check his owners manual to see what the recommended oil weight is now.
