Missing Connector? 1 Attachment(s) 2009 MS3. I was doing some work under the hood and noticed an electrical connector in the open not connected to anything. It's located just under the sticker that warns you not to stick your hand in the fan (as if you need a warning). |
Mine was connected. 2007 MS3 GT... http://i59.tinypic.com/65pnkp.jpg Did you check around underneath that plastic shroud with the sticker for the other end of the connector? |
Strangely enough, I can't find the other end... Thank you for the picture. I've got the end with the two yellow/black wires, but the other end is missing.. I'm guessing it's something with the fans? Mine come on fine though. |
Interestingly enough, the other end appears to go to the latch. The grey clip seen below, is attached to the male end of the cable on my car (which is the end you're missing). The cable pointed to is that same male-end of the cable -- it just routes around http://i62.tinypic.com/k0g93p.jpg Picture of the back side of the cable and what it connects to: http://i59.tinypic.com/2lmo01j.jpg |
That's interesting.. The male side is missing completely. Nothing going into the latch, no clip, nothing.. I'm really curious now.. Thank you for taking the time to look at yours. Really solid man |
What trim is your MS3? If it's a Sport I'd chalk the difference up to that... |
It's a GT trim |
Strange. You're not missing out on much though. Turns out it's hooked into the security system. There's a grounding point with a spring loaded arm. If that arm isn't grounded the alarm sounds off. |
Thanks again for taking the time to look at yours and take photos. Really appreciate that :You_Rock_Emoticon: |
Makes me wonder if your car was wrecked. Missing connections and stuff are huge flags. VIP members get background checks in the VIP section. And more. |
Mine is missing that connector too. It prevents you from locking the doors with the hood up I believe. Might be a trim package thing. I have the Sport model. My car was in a minor front end collision according to the carfax, so who knows. :ouch: |
My sport does not have that as well. |
For anyone wondering what purpose the connector and latch switch serve, they are in fact linked to the security system. I've confirmed this through trial and error out of sheer curiosity. If the hood latch release is pulled from inside of the car while the security system is engaged, the alarm sounds off. I tested the theory concerning the doors staying unlocked with the hood open -- no dice. If you do a search for hood latches, you'll find that they're available in two flavors: "w/o alarm" and "w/ alarm" -- the latter obviously includes the connector and switch many seem to be missing. Since the wiring seems to be in place by default on these cars i'd imagine this is a feature that could easily be integrated by purchasing/installing a new hood latch with the alarm wiring and switch. If you've got some time to kill, sound-off and let us know what year your car is, what trim-level it is and whether or not you have the latch with the alarm feature. Perhaps we can find some correlation... |
