motor making a rattleing sound

just dropped the ms3 off @ the dealership.

kinda making a rattleing sound. sounds like lifters tapping or incorrect valve lash.

funny thing is, it seems to be coming from the rear side of the motor (by the exhaust manifold, turbo, and alternator area.

sure hope its not on its way out! oil level was just a hair below max with only 3400 miles on it. car is pure stock.

any thoughts? :AR15firing: me

ptperformance 02-10-2009 09:11 PM

I think there is a recall or TSB for this. Something to do with the can VVT or VTI or ??? Its a known problem. Does it get louder when you first start the car in the AM or when its cold out?

dan7225 02-11-2009 04:17 PM

its not very loud at all. can only hear it when the windows are down and you are in a garage or next to a wall or something, while idling. it rattles more & faster when you rev the engine just a bit. its been pretty warm here 60 degrees plus when i started noticing it.

mazda said it was the serpentine belt tensioner.

sure didn't sound like it to me.

whats the warranty on our car? i spoke with a guy that said 3yr 36k miles only. not 36k bumpter-to-bumpter and 60k powertrain. i have the extended coverage to 100k; they want to charge me the $100 deductible though. my papers are in my glove box unfortunately.

i think i remember seeing that tsb on the vvt issue. it was for the cx7 wasn't it? anyone gotta link?

ChrisK 02-12-2009 07:22 AM

$100 deductible? For what. Sounds sketchy to me. If you paid for your 100k mile warranty you don't owe them anything.

and some MS3s have had the vvt issue as well. I don't have a link though.

Frequentflyer 02-12-2009 07:45 AM

You only have 3,400 miles on it. You're still in the initial warranty coverage and should sure as hell not be paying a deductable. There may be some fine print in your extented warranty that talks about deductables (gotta watch the fine print in those extended warranties), but again, you should be covered under the initial warranty. I would think this would be powertrain, which is 60 months/60k miles and bumper to bumper is 36 months/36k miles.

dan7225 02-12-2009 01:03 PM

car has 45k on it
oil has 3100 on it

i'd STOMP A MUD-HOLE IN HIS A$$ if he told me that if i only had 3100 miles on the car.

there is definintely a $100 deductible but i also thought that it would not go into effect until after 60k for the powertrain.

i talked to a mazda guy @ another dealership and he said he thought that the MS3 only had 36k bumper to bumper and powertrain.

i'll check my warranty papers & have the service mgr. show me where it explicitly says what the bumper to bumper & powertrain coverages are.

BUMPER-TO-BUMPER

MZRDISI4 02-12-2009 06:18 PM

Yeah you're still under warranty. I just brought my 07 Mazda in for service with over 40K on it and it was covered with no deductible.

dan7225 02-12-2009 06:25 PM

i know RIGHT? :rippedhand:

what is up with these damn stealerships!

serice mgr. straight lied to my face! he told me that my car only had 36k bumper to bumper and 36k powertrain. what would be the point of even having a 36k powertrain if the car comes with the 36k bumper to bumper. PLAIN RETARDED! :261:

i even have the total care extended warranty. i called M.N.A. and they verified exactly what you have pasted here. it's on their website.

i went ahead and paid the morons $100 + $24 for overnight shipping of the belt tensioner. they put on a new belt & tensioner and that fixed the rattleing noise.

needless to say, i'll be rippin him a new one when i go back. it sucks too, because they are so close, like 5 miles away. the next closest one is like 40 miles.

Dash08 02-13-2009 08:22 AM

That sucks ass man. You got owned. I had the same problem with my MS3. Tensioner pulley. I dropped my car off, got a loaner for free, they overnighted the part, and I picked up my car with no money out of pocket. If I were you, I'd take that shit to court. You can royally screw that dealership for warranty contract infrindgements. I'm not kidding man, they blatantly broke the law!! Threaten to contact the better business bureau, i'll bet you get your money back. Be sure to inform Mazda north america about this "extra" charge. You do not have to be victimized like this. It's fucking bullshit!

FIGHT!! WIN!!!

ThrillaSpeed3 02-13-2009 11:12 AM

Do not contact the dealership, call the Mazda Customer Service Department directly, and tell them ur problem that u are havin wit the dealership. They will then contact the dealership, and them get their shit together, and refund u ur funds. try to get something free out of it to. like a oil change.
