The "My car is running good thread"

I figured theres a lot of gloom and doom on these forums with the engines poping rods and chunking pistons. The reason you here about this is usually people do not report about things that are running well, so to stop the scare factor with everyone on the forums with massive engine failures i figured id report who's vehicles are actually running how there supposed to.

So to start things off

2009 MS3 CWP ~3,000 miles and running strong (damn well better be)
Only annoyances is that my map light housing rattles and its driving me nuts, o and my clutch pedal squeaks when i press it down other than that the car runs strong and feels great.

P.S. im knocking on wood as im typing

WD40 that pedal and you should be squeak free.
08.5 GT - 13,000 miles. I have a rattling glove box that the TRZ poly mount has exacerbated but this is an easy fix when I get some free time. TRZ poly mount shakes the crap out of the ebrake button and it rattles like no other. Gotta fix that. When I turn the engine over when it's cold it stumbles a little but starts [gotta check this out soon]. Other than those few things and of course the partial throttle knock that I see in vacuum, the car is running well so far. [prays]

gsrtype1 06-18-2009 07:19 AM

Fully Bolted, 57000 miles, 22psi, tuned by me with Cp-e Standback, 0 knock retard, car is a meth injected BEAST!!! :danems6:

nyghtryder 06-18-2009 07:33 AM

09 GT- 900miles better be running good

predapio 06-18-2009 08:00 AM

2008.5 GT 10250 miles
Just did 4th oil change, running great. Yes the TRZ poly makes the car rumble on start up, and it's a little worse with the AC on.
Given all the benefits of it, I don't care.
Only mod is intake. I don't boost when the engine is cold, I never take it above 6k, and I downshift when I romp on it (if it's below 3k).
I also like to downshift when I slow down (which is a no-no to some people)
Other than that I drive it like I stole it.

802MS3 06-18-2009 08:14 AM

14,100 miles, stock boost. car runs fine, no visable smoking. Just did my 3rd oil change, second one with PP 5w-40. I sent a sample to Blackstone for analysis, so hopefully the results back up my thoughts. I did my first seafoam right before. I drive it pretty hard when its dry outside and have driven it at multiple autocross events. I also take multiple road trips throughout the year (heading down to PA this weekend). she purs like she is brand new.

Sacrilicious 06-18-2009 08:17 AM

i just turned 40k miles...running my own ATR-customized AP stage 2+SF FMIC map...fun times with a controlled 18-19psi of boost! :D

superskaterxes 06-18-2009 08:20 AM

30k, fully bolted and tuned by christian to 24PSI. ZERO LTFT's across the board and no hiccups. smokes like a mofo but hopefully bnoon's restrictor should do the trick this weekend.

Haltech 06-18-2009 08:33 AM

36,155... fully bolted, AP tuned... Runs fine.

KayWhy 06-18-2009 08:48 AM

Wow this is a bigger hit than i though lol. I have that little hicup as well on cold start. There any issues with that or is it just normal with these cars?

phailerider 06-18-2009 08:59 AM

keep posting up... we got a hundred fully bolted cars to go.

badams118 06-18-2009 09:04 AM

My car runs awesome!

vvvv

mazdaj 06-18-2009 09:09 AM

33k miles- cpe catted dp, cai, forge bpv, and standback w/ map switch set to 17.5 psi. i know i could get more ponies tuning it but i prefer not to fuck with much until after i get a second car and this one is paid off. the 17.5 switch i only hit when im fucking around with other cars, other than that i use stock boost all day long when im by myself ripping on it. in the summer months, ive seen zero knock so far. i think it has somethong to do with a combination of the better gas (less ethanol?) and warmer weather because i get alot of knockin the winter, but others might not agree with that.

car runs great and feels great. with the mileage ive put on it, it now feels "broken in" and the shifting is smoother (still clunky) and the clutch is def more smooth and broken in. i love this car, but my only gripe is the power band is all midrange. my car feels like its all or nothing....in vacuum its slow as fuck but if i tap the gas pedal, and not even flooring it, it feels like my throttle plate goes wide open and my boost usually hits its target. this car is quirky, i guess thats why i like it :hypnotized:

bova 06-18-2009 09:09 AM

24,300 miles lots of mods and partially e-tuned by christian and myself @ 19.5-20psi.

ive got that little hiccup on cold starts and i even have the denso step 1 colder plugs. i find that if you put the car on accessory mode for 1 or 2 seconds and let the fuel run through a little before the startup, it can be a little smoother

Fobio 06-18-2009 09:16 AM

48,500kms of driving and tuning. tracked the bitch right after first oil change, installed AP @ 8000km, went thru 2 sets of RT615's tracking the first year...road trips of all kinds all over Southern Ontario and Quebec. Have been tracking regularly during the warm seasons and trips to the mountains for skiing in the winter...no problem, she loves it!

I commute now also, 35km each way every day...

TurboColtGT 06-18-2009 09:31 AM

18,800 miles and runs great... now if they could only fix the tpms light from randomly coming on it would be 100%

yoichi 06-18-2009 09:39 AM

Mods in Sig.

26,000 miles total

8000 miles w/ the GT3071R w/ supporting mods untuned w/ Major Boost Creep to 24+psi

7000 miles currently w/ the GT2871R w/ EWG @ 19psi tuned and running strong(knock on wood)

So 14K+ on the motor with BT and pushing hard everyday.

Labonte stgII meth is in my hands as well.

Good times to come

gtlaw 06-18-2009 09:50 AM

bone stock with 4,500 miles, and it hasn't blown up yet. quite an accomplishment huh?

phillyb 06-18-2009 10:03 AM

37k catless for about 16k
no smoke
lots of issues
but the car runs great

DaleNixon 06-18-2009 10:05 AM

Borderline stage 2 car. Stock tune. 7500 miles. Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 every 3k. AP with ATR dickery on the way. Occasional PT and cruise KR (like once a week at most). NVH like a mofo (TRZ rear and tranny mount), and that's the way I like it!

Edit: Even with the blown motor scares and all that bullshit I still fucking love this car and can't wipe the grin off my face even when just putzing around town.

19,000 miles, 2008.5 MS3

Put Turboxs catless downpipe/racepipe, cp-e cai at 2,000 miles, so 17,000 modded miles, no issues at all.

phailerider 06-18-2009 10:21 AM

lol... keep these sums of bitchs coming. were still just getting started:soapbox:

TXspeed3 06-18-2009 10:41 AM

2008.5 w/ 13,000 miles :-( .. feels lke alot of miles.. With Shifter bushings, HKS BOV w/ CPE Flange, and SRI / TIP going in next week, no problems what so ever.. I also downshift when slowing down.. change the oil with Royal Puprle about every 3K miles, and new filter every 5... i never drive apast 3K rpm's unless i find a good race, which is often.

Eazy 06-18-2009 10:57 AM

Mods in sig.... 28000 miles, beat on her every day, never seen the dealer since I bought it.

stephani3 06-18-2009 10:57 AM

08 GT, almost 38k miles and no problems to date *knock on wood*

i need to clean the filter on my intake though... intake, race pipe, catback, water pump pulley & bov are my only performance mods

doubleflusher 06-18-2009 11:00 AM

09 GT just passed 6K miles.

No issues.

yang_jackson 06-18-2009 11:14 AM

09 speed3 gt. mods in sig plus standback 17psi. run it that way all the time. car runs great. get a lil knock (need to tune it out), and need to keep an eye on my fuel pressure. but runs great none the less. i look fwd to driving whenever im not driving! oh, 5k miles

BoostIsBetter 06-18-2009 11:21 AM

09, mscai, inlet and 7900k. car runs great.

Radioactiveman 06-18-2009 11:22 AM

07' MS3GT full bolt on's and I mean all but injection (not a believer)(let the flaming begin).

has 36K and runs great, putting 285 to the ground and lovin every second I drive. one of the most energized cars I have ever driven. (for under $25K) that is. I love the comodities and the seats and the HID's and the, well everything.

I change oil, and adjust/inspect plugs every 3500, and drive very hard everyday.

anyway running strong with out one hick up accept when my plugs were out of gap, it was back firing, fixed that right straight.

thanks for the good thread.

radio

armarine04 06-18-2009 11:28 AM

2007 MS3 GT 41000 miles... CAI, CP-e dp, Mazdaspeed cat-back, and SU rear motor mount. Runs great however i really really wanna upgrade my BPV bad! There is some kinda of rattling going on in the back of the car that I can't pin point to save my life and I only hear it over larger bumps and what not drives me crazy but I ussually keep the radio up loud enough to not hear it but I KNOW its there. All in all I love my car. The End.

danesti 06-18-2009 11:30 AM

radioactive,
cr250... i mean i guess if you have to ride a two stroke...

ms3077 06-18-2009 11:31 AM

30,000miles - Had Cobb SRI/ TWM SS/ SU MM for the first 20k put went back to stock to get transmission rebuilt (Most likely my fault). This car is a bitch to drag race and I had more mis shifts than I like to even think about.. However, ever since my tranny was completely rebuilt I've had zero issues and it actualy shifts better than when I first bought it.

jwdp54 06-18-2009 01:08 PM

14,000 right now been fully bolted and tuned at 20psi, daily map is tuned to 15psi ever since 3500 miles. not a single problem and goin strong every day. mods in sig and a new dyno is going to be done first of july just for the hell of it.

Poet-Tek 06-18-2009 01:15 PM

8500 Miles. Light Mods. Runs Great. Getting 27MPG 40/60 City/Highway with a fair bit of romping on it at times. Highest KR I've ever seen is 0.7.

Pretty happy with the power levels right now, but may do suspension at some point.

bykeryder4life 06-18-2009 01:22 PM

22,000 miles on the car, now pretty much fully bolted minus an inlet, cbe and meth. car never see's more than 20psi, usually 18psi. Still running fine and only knocking part throttle shit

Lex 06-18-2009 02:06 PM

14 000 KM 08.5. Stage 2 bolt ons. No issues, no PT knock.

IshiKage 06-18-2009 03:09 PM

13k miles with mods below. no probs except i need to have my clutch checked.

i have driven three of my friends speed 3's and their clutches dont feel even an 1/8 as graby as mine.

their clutches are smooth when engaging and disengaging.

i can accelerate up to 6000rpms in their cars, push the clutch in slowly and shift smoothly into the next gear.

my car bucks like a bronco when i try to do it and it happens without accelerating nearly as high.

my clutch has made driving my car unpleasurable alot of times for me.

anyone have idea why my clutch feels the way it does?

DaleNixon 06-18-2009 03:21 PM

Is your type s BOV recirculating or VTA?

TXspeed3 06-18-2009 03:34 PM

+ 1 good point, i bet its not on recirc.

IshiKage 06-18-2009 03:35 PM

recirc. will never run VTA. my clutch has felt like this since gettin gmy car brand new before getting mods.

i just thought it would wear in over time and it hasnt. and i have noticed it more sincei have been driving other MS3's. modded and stock

I've driven a friend's CWP 2008.5 MS3...its clutch is grabby too...way too grabby. I blame it on too many drop clutch launches...

but if you say yours is like that from the factory, then I'd change my theory.

gsrtype1 06-18-2009 03:41 PM

Man it HOT outside. This is 22psi pullling 3-5% fuel on 50/50meth. It seems richer than it should be I'm assumiong its cause 100 degrees out.

yeah, def not my case. only time ive "launched" my car was at the track. only gone to the track twice and a total of 8 runs for both time. and i slip the clutch.

k, im taking it to mazda tomorrow. they said we would go for a ride in mine then take out two other MS3's on the lot for comparison. then change the clutch after they feel the difference

Haha! Funny you should ask. I've had the car for almost a year now. I am running SCCA Solo D Stock this year and committed myself to finish an entire season without changing classes. As soon as this season is over I'm putting on a CAI, a Cobb rear sway, and some Koni Sports.

MrBig 06-18-2009 05:24 PM

08.5 with over 25K miles. Only mods right now are CAI & test pipe.
Only problem I've had was a small noise from the rear suspension with under 3K miles (checked & fixed by dealer).

Considering I don't have one, don't run any of the maps, and have never looked into the map definitions. I know you're being a facetious asshole, but I'd like a serious answer. So these stages are based off AP maps and requirements then?

danesti 06-18-2009 06:05 PM

claiming stages = gay
letting people know what AP map your running = ok

reddeerspeed3 06-18-2009 09:17 PM

2008, 28000km, SRI/TIP/TBE/MBC@15psi, absolutely no knock on 94 octane. KMD v2's on the way.

and i drive it like its stolen 365 days a year

TBE
SRI
AP - Custom tune ATR
...and others

Only issue was smoke at idle...tuned out with ATR
Rattles from brake button...put double sided tape in there
Rattles from light housing on ceiling...fixing that this weekend
Rattles from hatch with accelerating from below 2000rmps

All trvial...I still love this car because I'm 34 and never had a car above 125 hp before this...:yup:

10,500 miles, 4 fully synthetic oil changes, fully bolted and babied each day. I touch boost maybe once a week. 6 mile round trip to work, never been on a road trip. i need a better AP tune though, this pt throttle knock still has me paranoid.

bryand8930 06-19-2009 01:37 AM

30k miles fully bolted and tune on 19psi runs fine :) but selling car

aragorn764 06-19-2009 03:32 AM

43k kms, a little smoke when i step on it but that's about it, have had bad fuel cuts in winter time up here but in summer its perfect, mods in sig.

ms3jake 06-19-2009 04:59 AM

20k, cobb dp and sri. No engine complaints here.

fjames 06-19-2009 12:48 PM

Stage 1.5 :D No complaints since ATR. Rotella 5-40 since 2nd oil change, I baby the shit out of it until fully warmed. I noticed since self-tuning that I probably drive it better for durability because I have to treat it more like a NA car since it makes less boost down low. I downshift more in other words.

tuners 06-19-2009 02:26 PM

23000 miles car runs really strong. Next mod on my list is a SU TMIC. Only complaint is occasionally it is difficult down shifting into second gear.

phillyb 06-19-2009 02:30 PM

i'm stage a million and you guys are only stage 5

CruisinSpeed6 06-19-2009 02:39 PM

ErockMS3 06-19-2009 03:57 PM

25K with mild mods (in sig). Running as good as ever!

Enjoying my new catless downpip from PT-Performance more every day. Running AP S2 + SF 93 OTS map until I can find some time to start tinkering with ATR.

mcwong153 06-19-2009 07:54 PM

08.5 with 11k miles with no issues. I just got it recently so its stock but I have a list of mods on the way

taf0422 06-19-2009 08:51 PM

October 2006 manufacture 2007 GT bought 20,000 zero problems. Car runs great CP-e CAI, CP-e Inlet, Corksport test pipe, HKS BPV, colder plugs. Never had the car knock on any trip! Car runs like a dream!!

Did have a faulty six disc (fixed under warranty)
Passenger window bolts loosened (fixed under warranty)
Fuel Pump screwed at 12,000miles (fixed under warranty)

Hectik1 06-21-2009 12:30 AM

08 MS3 Sport with K&N drop in, SU intake pipe, Forge BPV, gutted 2nd cat, SU bushings, and AWR RMM for "performance" mods. I have 26k, changed to synthetic oil this last oil change. Runs really strong and has been an absolute blast to drive everyday. I drive it hard, often. Only issue I had was a faulty CD eject on the radio and I smoke a little on start up which should be eliminated with bnoon's restrictor.

FreeFlyFreak 06-21-2009 12:17 PM

1 year, 12000 miles.
Drive it like I stole it.
Fantastic car once I got rid of the stock dampers after a couple of thousand miles.
Runs well, goes fast.

I get the oil changes at the dealer, for ease of engine warranty work (if required) later.
I just did the front brakes myself, the pads were 0 and rotors were not machinable to within tolerances, rear pads still have 20-25% left.

mz32quick 06-21-2009 01:54 PM

2008 w/ 23k miles or so. Cobb SRI, CPe MM, TWM bushings as mods right now, runs like a champ still. Drive it 100 miles round trip daily for work. Hasn't seen the dealership since I brought her ass home.

Not necessary to install the manifold, it just makes life easier.

09 w/12000 miles. Completely stock, the only thing that is slightly unsettling is a 'stumble' on cold starts.

08.5 with 11,500 miles. Mods in sig. TRZ rattles trunk shade protector thingymajig and center console, LTFT's are high, but the car runs strong and hard and I haven't had any issues with it yet. :)

08.5 with 16K and it''s still running great. I have no complaints.

2006 MS6 Sport
40,500 miles
Mods in sig.
Runs fantastic!
Need to do something about the stock TMIC as this heat soak is a bummer, then on to a Cobb AP to dial it all in.

12.5K miles 2008.5 MS3
I'm the second owner and I put on a Mazdaspeed CAI about 500 miles ago.
No problems and I see great fuel pressure all the time.

09 with 16000 miles on it runs great except for the embarrasing smoking that is starting to get worse as of late. Hopefully bnoons bolt will fix it for me because it is getting old quick. I run it pretty hard and the car loves it.

NoRegrets 06-30-2009 01:24 PM

It has been eight great months with the speed3...

4/08 build date,
around 16,000 miles on the odometer,

3 early oil changes, then every 3000 (with regular oil),
switched to PP at 14800

Stock except shifter bushings and Dashhawk

no knock

yang_jackson 06-30-2009 10:15 PM
