N2MB Wot Box help...

I got my WOT BOX in the mail today and hooked it up per the mazdaspeed 3 instructions. The no lift shift works fine but when I try to use the 2 step the car bogs and dies. Drives fine beyond that. I have triple checked the yellow wire to white/red crank position sensor wire connection. Any idea why the car would be doing this? Im at a loss. Thanks in advance.

I cannot remember but dont you need to cut the crank position wire? Hope you're catless

It says to just strip it and attach the yellow wire to 2W red/white. Not sure why its making the car die. I was going to go catless in a month or so. The instructions said that running it with a cat was ok as long as it isnt done for more than a few seconds.

Ok reloaded the software and now it works fine....oh well.

Great to hear the problem is solved. To extend the thread a bit: how do you like it - brief report on use and results, or maybe you could start a new thread?

I have driven about 500 miles on it since getting it to work. I got it mostly for the track but the no lift shift function is by far the best feature on the street. I have mine set for 250ms and there is only a very very short pause between one gear to the next, so little in fact that the BPV never releases and it hold 10-13 psi between gears. This translates to what seems like much quicker acceleration as you are not losing boost between shifts.

I ran a 14.1@102 at 6000ft altitude last time down the track and I plan in going again in a few weeks but i will also have meth installed by then so it wont be a completely clear estimate of how well the WOT BOX works. I will still post up results so you can have a rough idea of the difference.

As for the launch control... I used it once and I don't think its very useful outside of a sticky track and running 17-20psi on the front tires. Too much torque to launch on the street. Then again I am using an MBC so my boost is running much higher in 1st and 2nd. If it was on a stock car or with someone who is really good at street launches it might make sense to use it.

I am also fully catted. My car has smoked at idle a few times in the past and I dont plan on messing with the exhaust so I wouldn't be using the launch control much anyways. The no lift shift I would imagine isn't very nice on the cats either though. A hard shift usually produces a loud bang out the exhaust and sometimes flames as well.

Even if I never planned on tracking the car I think it is a very good mod for the price point.

Thanks. It's the two stage part that would have been of interest to me, as I have trouble being consistent with launches. I have flat shifted this car at the track repeatedly and have had no problems with that. Since the power goes south on this turbo by about 5,800 rpm, I flat shift at 5,500 rpm, knowing I have lots of headroom before hitting the rev limiter.

You are very right that no-lift shifting, regardless of the method is good for several tenths improvement in track times because we do not lose boost. Keeping the turbo on boil is very helpful. 13.4's at 106 at sea level, but very poor 60 ft's.

And, I'm catless, so I would not be concerned about cat damage. But if I can have consistent rpm control at the tree, that would be a good substitute for the bad driver mod I have with shitty 2.3 60 ft's on stock tires, most of the time with only the occasional 2.2's and no 2.1's that I think I should be able to get if I knew what the hell I was doing. Do you sense that your 60 ft's are better now?

I'm not sure about the '60 foot times. Hopefully I can make it to the track next week. In theory it should produce good times once I have it set right. I pull 2.2 to 2.3 on my ventus V12's but I ran a 2.0 on my stockers by not even launching just low rmp and feathering the clutch so who knows. I think with the launch control I should drop to 2.1/2.0.

The no lift shift shouldn't be underestimated though. I used to flat foot and it may be my imagination but the no lift shift feels faster and less harsh on the drivetrain. Its very clean and I think actually faster than flat footing. I have mine set to 250ms and there is almost no pause between shifts. It just hooks after 2nd. I would guess that it is maybe 1 tenth to 2tenths faster than flat footing it. If you combine them both you should realistically pick up .3 to .4 seconds which is rather huge for 160 bucks.

I guess the next track day I go to will show the real difference. Im hoping for a 13.7@104 or so. I think I can pick up .4 seconds from last time with meth, intercooler sprayer, WOT BOX, and 1 or so PSI more boost.

Good information. I'll stay subscribed and tune back in. I hope your next runs go well. Even the 14.1 was pretty good for your altitude, and with the meth spray for the IC, you should improve. Let us know how it goes.
