Still waiting to hear more about the results with this reflash...

I'm curious if it will improve my car...though I don't have any of the issues...

Anyone else got the reflash?

Laloosh 04-15-2008 10:08 AM

traction does not make you trap lower, my degree is basee around phsycis, dont make me confuse you with a bunch of equations lol

CraigHJr 04-15-2008 10:11 AM

I have the reflash I think. My warranty recipt says update pcm. They didn't fix the fuel pump because they blamed it on evap shit. The car drives ok now, but really the same as before it went in. the service wrighter was telling me what a huge differance it made but I don't think they even drove my car. I am so glad I don't work for a dealer anymore I hate lieing pricks!

Laloosh 04-15-2008 10:14 AM

I want to clear something up right off the bat. Did you car stumble at idle aod do whatever it does now prior to the standback install?

don't think that because I work on cars I don't understand physics. You would be surprised at my level of education.

Laloosh 04-15-2008 10:30 AM

nowhere did i question your education, and that was directed towards haltech, whose education i am not questioning either. Equations are confusing when you don't have the backround. My backround is strongly based on phsyics, show me an organic chem equation and ill scratch my head with a puzzled look on my face.

Me? I have had a rough idle on start up since new. The P2177 lit once with the MS cai only, but P2187 became problematic with a Standback installed. The time I spent flip flopping set ups has been going on weekly for months. I have gotten the P2187 with a Cobb and no Standback also. I'm pissed because if you read the TSB it just says replace the pump if the car hasn't had it done. The dealer BS'ed me saying we pin point tested the problem and smoke tested the emission valves and thats the hesitation off idle you feel. I told them I dont feel that and to replace the pump like the TSB said, but here I sit wondering if the flash (if it was even done) will work with my new CDFP.

<==== Microprocessor Engineer and Thermadynamics

Doesnt take an engineer to figure out the car the gets the bigger grip has the lower ET but slower trap, that is saying both cars on pretty equal.

Laloosh 04-15-2008 10:14 PM

how do you trap higher? you acc. How do you acc faster? you don't spin. Thats as simple as its going to get. If you trap lower with a better 60 it simply means u fucked up and landed to low or still bogged to much. Theres a fine line, but with maximum traction comes maximum trap speed

kraz3y 04-16-2008 06:34 PM

just got it done today. car felt different off the lot like gas response became better and so was acceleration and idle was smoother cuz usually i can feel my butt vibrating due to trz dog bone mount now not so much. I think it improved my car a bit cuz at first i didn't think i needed it but got it done anyway. Now I'm happy car feels better than before woo

Jesse MS3GT 04-17-2008 05:29 AM

How does it feel different...? Did you have any of the issues listed in the service bulletin? I'm not sure whether I should do it since I haven't had any complaints/issues...:dunno:

Anklh 04-18-2008 02:41 AM

I am scheduled to take it in next week. I have never had any EMS on this car and the issues I have are when I cold start it idle's really rough and then stalls, then until it gets warmed up it acts all stupid even hesistating upon acceleration when cold. This has been going on for 6 months. Once warm it runs great.

mods atm are: cp-e cai, cp-e turbo back

AutoXRacer 04-18-2008 05:12 AM

Well, I've decided just to get it done this afternoon...regardless that I haven't had any issues... I'll report back on Monday morning.

This morning for the first time, I experienced my fuel pressure drop to 1200 at 5700-6400 RPM and felt the engine power reduce...nothing drastically noticible like traction control kicking in...it was a very smooth transition into reduced power. My AFRs were still in the 11s.

What the hell was that!!!???:06:

Out of 5 pulls, it did it 3 times... Weather conditions were in the 52* range.

i have that same thing. except i think it happens when the temps are in around the 40s. mine happens in the mid rpm range and then the fuel pressure comes back up.

AutoXRacer 04-18-2008 06:59 AM

What is this...? Is this fuel cut or something else?

bova 04-18-2008 07:18 AM

1 Attachment(s)
it wasn't fuel cut because i never felt anything really. when i did a run when it was 70 degrees i really didn't feel a difference in power the whole way. only difference was my log looked like this. i'll be getting the reflash done monday and maybe pump replaced if they have to.

AutoXRacer 04-18-2008 07:24 AM

Very interesting!!! Thanks for sharing...
I haven't data logged much...I can't find a place to run the gears...

This darn car is too fast. lol If I do a 4th or 5th gear pull, I'm going to jail if I get caught... LOL

bova 04-18-2008 07:33 AM

yeah i know, i usually just try to do a 3rd gear on this straight road where no one usually is. otherwise i hop no the highway for a bit and do it there when i get a clear straight. but i have been logging a lot of data lately cause i want to get a good tune for my setup. but i'll be getting the reflash monday and then also be getting a downpipe soon, so it will all change again.

Crossbow 04-18-2008 09:46 AM

AutoXracer,

Isn't that the truth. 2nd and 3rd gear are the fun ones. 4th and 5th are the arrest, or track gears :).

BlackMS3 04-18-2008 02:48 PM

Called my dealer service manager today... asked about the TSB and she said bring it in tomorrow and they will flash me...

No problems, no questions, just an "okay, bring it in..."

Of course my service manager has a modified RX8... so that probably helps...

AutoXRacer 04-18-2008 02:53 PM

Just came back from the dealers... I got DENIED (due to mods)!!!!!
Service lady said due to my mods they could not do it...she said I could return the car to stock and they'll be happy to do it... I just said that ain't gonna happen...to far into mods now.

Then she said we would have to charge you... I said go ahead, whatever you have to do...

She spoke with the tech and he said there were no updates for my PCM/ECU...

I am wondering if I got shafted and blown off...????? According to the TSB, my VIN and build date is affected.
:cussing::thumbsdown:

aaronc7 04-18-2008 02:57 PM

^^ GHEY. How much would it have cost?

CraigHJr 04-18-2008 03:54 PM

Reading the tsb it says flash and then replace the pump if it hasn't been done. I got the flash and then the celo came back on 4 days later. I would not settle for just a flash for this one.

BlackMS3 04-18-2008 04:02 PM

Obviously the flash is just step 1... if the issue re-occurs, then time to bring up the pump....

I hope I can get my turbo to smoke like a freight train tomorrow too!!

Haltech 04-18-2008 04:17 PM

ill tell you what, when i bring my car in and say that i do get a pump, while following their de-pressurizing procedures, my car is going to smoke like a steam train if it idles longer than 5 mins.. Perhaps ill get a replacement turbo out of the whole deal, who knows. Im starting to think that its a crankcase problem.

TRU-BOOST 04-18-2008 04:23 PM

i checked the date on my new mrlilguy cdfp and sure enough it was made before the cut off. i think the pump is OK though. i went for the flas today. car idles smoother and my AFR's are about 1/2 point RICHER. i see steady low 10's now !?

shucky 04-21-2008 08:47 AM

tru where did you flash at with all your mods? I've had 3 dealers in Chicago burbs tell me they have to recreate a "problem" in order to perform the TSB ???

AutoXRacer 04-21-2008 09:24 AM

She didn't say... When she went to the tech to check for price/hours, she came back saying the tech said there was no need that there were no updates for my PCM.

I would assume one hour labor charge; ~$90 or something?

bova 04-21-2008 11:54 AM

so not only did they reflash my pcm, despite all the mods i have, they are going to be replacing the pump tomorrow.

ZooZoom 04-21-2008 12:15 PM

my local dealer also wants to "duplicate a problem with cold-start running" before he'll authorize a new pump.

I call B.S.

If early model fuel pumps don't flow as much or fast-acting as the newer models then you should get a new pump as a matter of fact.

bova 04-21-2008 12:21 PM

yeah they didn't want to test anything on my car, all they did was reflash the pcm then take a look at the date on the fuel pump and said ok we'll overnight one for you.

bill jacobs mazda in joliet. i called and told them i wanted it and that was it.
i also had 2 previos visits when i first got the car for "periodic loss of power"
so they gave me no hassle, and yes i had all my mods !

MYADVICE if you honestly do not have any stuttering or periodic power issues DO NOT GET THE FLASH !! my car actually runs more rich now. and to make matters worse i get fuel cut in 5th and 6th gear. i am wayy pissed to say the least. i wonder if i can get UNFLASHED ??

Unfortunately, I believe its a one way street...no un-flashing.

Do you have an upgraded fuel pump? Iirc, you do...and you are getting fuel cut???:yikes::06: Why????

TRU-BOOST 04-21-2008 01:26 PM

i do have a pump upgrade and i have no idea why ?! my cut was gone with the exception of when i ran high boost is super cold temps. now after the flash it is back durin 5th and 6th gear rolls. AFR's look good timing is fine, knock is down below 2.o now that it warmed up, MAF is not maxed out...i dont know, but i am pissed !

redrocketz 04-21-2008 02:10 PM

that would suck if they replaced your pump

NYpest 04-21-2008 02:16 PM

i was thinking the same thing !!! that they might have replaced his pump upgrade

shucky 04-22-2008 07:29 AM

Tru, thanks for the info. Keep us updated as to your cut issues now since the reflash.

AutoXRacer 04-22-2008 07:42 AM

His paperwork should say whether they replaced it or not...

I'm going to hold off on the pursuit of this factory reflash till everyone drives with it a while...

I am going to call Superchips and see what they have in the horizon or actually working on. I saw a thread with this video and its pretty exciting...
MPMC - Superchips « Videos « WebRidesTV

Since I live right next door sort of, I'm going to try for them to R&R something for us. Though I wonder if being modded will throw off their tuning capabilities for stock applications/base tuning...?

I am soo stoked!!! I'm axiously waiting for the phone to ring or an email to come!!!!

Haltech 04-22-2008 08:10 AM

I wouls prefer SCT over a SC, but hell, anything to drive competition, im down for. Its weird how the show the Mazdapeed speedo and speed 3, but show a picture of the Ford EEC 5 computer.
