Not passing inspection - codes "not ready"

Ok, so after taking the DP with failed cat off and putting the stock cats back on, the mechanic reset the ecu. It would nto pass inspection after a couple of days of driving so I took it home. A total of 730+ miles on the car since reset and still, these 3 codes/sensors are showing not ready. Two of them are o2 and evap... not sure on the third, maybe cat??? Anyways, any suggestions here? I've been babying this thing since I got it back. From all the reading on other forums I have done, it points to certain temps things must reach for these two to show up as "OK". I drive 38 miles each way to work and its all highway and little to no traffic. I've barely hit boost in it. I'm thinking tonights drive home is gonna be balls out since my 10 day temporary inspection is expired today as well.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I know for GM's they have a crazy cycle to reset the monitors. You have to vary speed, have the heat on, have the heat of, drive a constant speed for a certain amount of time, etc.

Maybe you can google something along the lines of Mazda reset cycle or something similar.

I found the one for GM's on some old mechanic's forum and it worked. Or possibly call the dealer on the sly and ask them.

Do what I did check if any of your egr things are unchecked in atr and tighten your gas cap so it clips a few times. For the cats you'll have to check the number for the cats and ref lash the map. This will make the car think it still has cats. Then drive the car for 30mil and hope your cel won't come on. Then get it tested and WA la

I don't have an AP so can't do that and i have stock cats back on as stated.

Will it solve your problems? I don't know, but it worked for me! I did have to run it twice to clear everything but "Catalyst", but Utah allows one I/M sensor to be "Not Ready" and still pass inspection. I also "Faked" a cold soak by hooking up a 0-1000 ohm variable resistor in series with the coolant temp sensor so I could run a drive cycle, shut the car off, put the full 1000 ohms resistance in the temp sensor circuit (the ECM then thinks the engine is cold), turn the resistor form 1000 down to 0 ohms (now reading the actual temp sensor signal), and run the drive cycle again. From a Miata forum I found via Google:

Here is a Mazda drive cycle:

Pre-requisites: MIL off and no DTCs present (this is where clearing your codes comes in); fuel level between 15 and 85%; all accessories OFF; cold start (preferred 8 hour cold soak w/ engine between 68 and 86 deg F at start-up)

1) Start vehicle and idle 5 min.
2) Rev engine in neutral or park to 2300-2700 rpm for 15 seconds
3)Rev engine in neutral or park to 3800-4200 rpm for 15 seconds
4)Idle engine for 20 seconds with cooling fan stopped.
5)Accelerate to 52-55 mph, maintain speed (in high gear) for 1 1/2 minutes
6) Decelerate to 15 mph, and then drive for 13 minutes at speeds ranging from 15 to 35 mph
7) maintain steady 25 mph for 50 seconds.

Each step of the drive cycle indicates a test for a different monitor on the vehicle (catalyst, o2 sensor, evap, etc) so each step is important. Some vehicles are a pain and may require a few drive cycles.

It wouldn't hurt to try it. The problem is the cool down part. Because if there is one thing that I think is universal to most cars is the cycle starting at "cold"

Oh my car is cold now when I'm leaving work - parked for 11 hours. I can try some of them except the 15 mph shit. Like you said, can't hurt.

Yeah the duty cycle on some cars are outright ridiculous and can take as long as 3-4 weeks to clear. Good luck man I know in IN they won't fail you if you aren't complete just make you come back. Get a hold of a more advanced OBD2 scanner and it will let you know when the rest of the system is ready. Maybe head to a local parts store and check before going again. Good luck.

I tried a few of those things from 247 but when I got home, still not ready. The 3 I/M are evap, o2s and cat. I'll try whats posted above on Saturday or Sunday. Thanks.
