Oh man I think I have something wrong with my motor :( Ok how do I start? First sorry for posting this but I read for about two hours now on what other people been having issues with regarding their motors. Here's my story: I was in 4th going about 40mph Cruising normal and all I heard is sound of metal shredding from the front right. I quickly thought of what I been reading here and put it in neutral and was about to cry seriously. I just bought this car a week ago I couldn't believe it was happening to me already. But.....after I put it in neutral, I listened close and revved up a little (~2000rpm) sounded normal. Then revved to 3k rpm and it sounded normal. Then I slowly pulled over into a lot and opened hood and listened to motor and it sounded normal. Ok? So I shut her down waited 3min and checked oil- full!! Ok?? I'm about to piss in my pants praying to god that I didn't f something up. So I get in turn it on and it was normal. No CEL, no power loss, no smoking from tailpipe. I take off and push on it a little and it was fine all the way home. This is weird can someone help me figure it out? I feel there's a need for compression test. Anything else I should check? Autozone? Dealer? Im still under warranty. Please guys I'm counting on you. Btw I have an 07 ms3 STOCK (not even tint lmao) 43k miles. Just changed the oil 500 miles ago 5w30 full synthetic. |
if its stock take it to the dealer and tell them what happened, and you want to make sure nothing is up. If they question you, blow their fucking heads off and find a new dealer |
Take it to the dealer. If it's under warranty and you're stock, that's the best thing to do. |
Ok I will first thing tomorrow morning. I hope they don't drive it and say "we cannot reproduce what ur talking about so fuck u" or "you haven't done oil changes here so warranty voided" oh man I'll be mad Thanks tho |
take it to the dealer first. if they tell u to go fuck yourself then get a buddy that knows a lil about cars to ride with you and maybe he can hear u drive by to see if its brake noise or wheel noise or w/e from outside. dont be so spooked about blown motors man....people are afraid of this shit too much...this can be something as simple as a wheel bearing taking a shit on u.... good luck let us know what happens |
possible that it was pinging .. were u on the gas when u heard the noise? |
Hey lenny127 I appreciate that input. My cousin graduated from uti in Philly and should help me out if anything. Micasp33d what is pinging? And yes I was about 25% on throttle accelerating slowly from 35-45 to switch to 5th but it happened around 40 It sounded kinda sorta like running over a piece of metal fence that was on the street. Thats what I thought cuz it didn't happen again so I drove back and parked the car nearby and took a walk in the 15 degree weather tryna find what it was and didn't find jack shit. Maybe I ran over something, caught between my tire and car and made that noise for 1-2 sec and it just fell off somewhere? Idk Check this out: At approximately 1:12 that what it exactly sounded like but it was only a 1-2 seconds and not that loud. |
Omg I couldn't not stop laughing at that video. "Is that your engine?? Are you joking??" Good luck. And let us know what the dealer says Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk |
i had a big rock some how get behind the rotor and backing plate ,i thought the hole thing was going to shit ! hopefully its something simple |
What's up with the long pinky nail in the video? I can think of a hundred other ways out can still do bumps and not look like a total ass pounder. Anyway go to the dealer and explain what happened. |
Lol that's not my video just a reference to what happened to me. Today my car started and warmed up normally then went for a drive and it was normal. Took a video for anyone that wants to watch. And dealer is closed for christmas |
Where's the fuckin video ? That link is all kinds of shit.... |
Link is working for me...go to youtube and search motor blow and watch the one where some dude races the green m3. When he blew his motor at 1:12 it sounded real similar to what happened to me. I will load my video really soon Edit: here it is |
Dude, grab your balls in both hands and get it to the dealer, as has been said and, stop driving it. If something is wrong, you're gonna make it worse. I'd be betting on a driveline item like clutch or throwout bearing if the car starts and runs normally. If you did what the eclipse retard did, you wouldn't have gone any further. You can reproduce that sound driving up a gravel road. |
couldn't really find a good video to show the sound of it ... but did it sound like marbles or metal objects bouncing around in your engine and did it go away after u lift off the gas? If it did .. its probably pinging/detonation. Bad or not high enough octane gas can cause this. |
1 Attachment(s) Did it sound like this? |
fucking coke nail and that vid was funny |
Haha thats an eclipse for ya...take the car in and have them check it out. It's free besides what it costs you to spend in time there. |
Make sure you get paper from the dealer that you brought it in with symptoms described. If it won't do it with the dealer this time and craps later you will have a paper trail that you reported said problem and will make it easier to get warranty work. Demand a print out of the visit. |
Ok sounds good and thanks for the advice. Getting a printed sheet of what they checked out is a really smart idea. I had to drive the car today and I push hard on it and everything was perfect. I went to work and went on a dirt road to see if I can replicate the sound and I actually was able to. There was left over shit all over the road from the construction near by so I hope that's what happened. It sounded like marbles in my motor bouncing sround for about 2secs when it happened and noticed it sounded real close to what i was able to do today so I'm a little more comfortable now. But it will be at Mazda first thing Monday morning cuz they closed for the holidays. And no I didn't go off road like some crazy type shit lol so don't say I'm stupid for doing this. If Mazda said I'm good to go, I'm celebrating with buying the following: SU RMM, COBB intake, Tint, and deleting my cat and two resonators!! :) Till then, I Wanna wish everybody here a Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!!! |
Don't delete the res's, will be very loud and sound like shit. Buy a Cork Sport cat back, cheapest and best sounding IMO. |
Really? Damn cuz I seen a couple videos online with a straight pipe from 2nd cat to 2nd res and it sounded good. Maybe just the cat and one res? I don't wanna buy a whole exhaust cuz that would be too expensive. I found a guy to do it for $100 so...:dot: |
cnt exhaust. 300 for a cat back is unbeatable |
For a N1 style exhaust... not too bad... |
it wasnt the pulley tension-er making noise? |
I remember you're in Allentown. What dealer are you taking it to? |
yea...i dont know fucking jack shit this thing is weird. it has to be something i ran over cuz today i drove it for about 2 hours total and beat the hell out of it and it was fine. wtf?? still going to mazda dealer for shits n giggles i guess. I am going to Scott Mazda on Lehigh street. Plan B is Young Mazda in NJ |
take it to a smooth, flat road and give it a test run, and pay particular attention to clutch pedal feel and vibration. Many folks that have soon-to-blow engines were getting clutch pedal vibration ...... Apparently, this vibration is due to the connecting rod that is slowing bending and causing and out-of-balance feel / vibration when doing clutchwork. Check the threads related to clutch vibration for exact symptoms. If it's nearing a zoom-zoom-boom.... uhhhhh....don't get to the "boom" part. |

r u taking that vette in ur pic for an oil change? lmao And I think the clutch and the car really hates me now for what i did to her/him today lol....I am very sensitive to things and didnt feel any change in clutch feel, clutch engaging point, nothing.... and 08.5MS3 whats your car? obviously 08 ms3 but color? mods? so i look for u |
The horrible noise you heard could have been the suspension bushings. When it's very cold, my front end sounds like it is dragging metal across the road. But it's just the bushings squeaking in the cold. The first time I heard it, I pulled over and looked underneath the car. It sounded that much like metal or ice scraping. |

I have a Metro Grey Mica. No mods that you'll be able to see from the outside, other than my winter wheel/tire setup. My dad is taking our SRX in for sevice too, so I may grab some coffee with him across the street at Starbucks. What time is your appointment? |
Appointment? Haha this thing happened two nights ago and so I called Friday and they weren't open. So I guess I'm just Gunna walk in?what time they open? |
They open at 8:00am. |

Any updates? |
I hope everything is ok with your car. And that kid taking that Video sounded like a total FAG lol...... |
ms3=evokilla...thats a true statement 1. ms3 is an evo killa and 2. he did sound like a total fag haha |
damn bro, u just got the damn car. hope all is well. hit me on FB if you need anything |
Update: today I went to young Mazda without an appointment and the guy said there is nothing wrong with it. So yay...I ran over some shit :) ^^^thats the short version but long story he took to me through all the steps and explained to me everything in detail. He really knew his ms3/ms6 motors lol And thanks Justin I will def be hitting u up in the summer to do a few mods and test runs on a closed road in Mexico!! |
As I promised myself, I will be buying the following after I recover from new years party: SU RMM $135 COBB SRI $175 STSP with the bushings from jbarone $95 Mud flaps from jbarone $95 Tint 5% all the way around $225 What else do u guys commend? So far total is $725 |
Aside from the tint, all can be easily installed by yourself. Good first mod list. You'll really feel the difference in the car. I just recently bought a lightened shift weight. May be subjective, but I can definitely feel a difference with the 'weight' of the shift. Being that they are a mere $25 or so, you really can't go wrong. |
