Oil Catch Can Empty So for the last few months my OCC has been bone dry. My AP logs look fine, plumbing is good, nothing out of ordinary. I'm just not catching any oil. Anyone have this happen with their OCC? Bad catch can? |
Is all the oil frozen in there? If they freeze they don't empty and you get some serious problems. Don't know where you live. |
I'm in Canada. Its not frozen its been like this over the summer months. Even last winter there was stuff coming out. |
What can do you have? After winter months I had to sometimes shove a wire brush up the drain port to dislodge the sludge that accumulates inside before the pure liquid will come out. Another possibility is that you have a bad PCV valve. If you are still using the OEM PCV valve I would highly recommend you swap it out with a suitable aftermarket one as they are known to fail. |
Mine certainly catches less in the summer, but not none. I get 7-8 oz. of liquid per 1,000 miles of driving in the winter, and about 1 oz./1,000 miles in the summer. The fact that yours once trapped some fluid suggests its hooked up correctly, so something seems to have failed. If your drain is open or your hoses are leaking, you'd have a horrible vacuum leak and you'd know. Don't ask me how I know, but your idle would be horrid, and it would keep trying to stall on you. I'd check that it's not clogged. A pipe cleaner works well if you can find one. You should be able to tell if there's any liquid in it by just shaking the can and listening for it jostling around. |
I have the Saikou Michi with a "check valve". I'll have to check for clogage. I have changed the hose (few months ago) to a heavier one because it was kinked and when i did that i made sure the check valve was working properly. But i will check again. |
1 Attachment(s) So the OCC was clogged. I couldn't feel any fluids swooshing around because it was pretty full and gunked up. |
about time |
Glad you got it sorted out |
Yeah I have that same can and same problem. If I had to do it again I'd probably shell out for a different style can. I forgot who makes it, but there was a nice one that actually unscrews from its own lid so you can dump the entire can out. |
Hm you guys scared me. Have a similar issue. Or at least my OCC is behaving little similar to what you described here. The very first time, I had less than 1000 miles on it and got a bunch of shit out of the can. Now it's almost like 2000 - 3000 miles and nothing serious came out of it. I tried it this past Sunday and got like 1/2 OZ but that is. So from then I got peace of mind but after reading your thread, makes me kind of go back and take a closer look. FYI: Notice that I drive very few miles with this car. Almost 6 months and I didn't make 3000 miles on it. Thanks for further advices |
same here, when first installed, i was like damn that much?? now been driving my car 50mils everyday and barely catch some dirt. i believe is the pcv value, but does anyone know how to replace it??? |
Elite Engineering makes this type of can. I use it and can easily access it from above by taking off the COBB SRI air filter. Quote:
