Oil Change time... Ok so I am going to get an oil change tomorrow but the Mazda dealership looks shady and has got crap reviews in my town. I am going to go to the sears to get it done but I have a quick question. I am not sure what oil is in my 07 mS3 (I bought it used a little while ago) and know that I need to get the 5w30 fully synthetic. Is any brand of fully synthetic 5w30 ok??? Thanks!!!! |
penzoil platinum is a great choice |
I wouldn't trust Sears either. If ya gotta, make sure they use the right weight and amount. Too many wrench-pullers don't know the difference between the 3 and the Speed. Even the dealers don't. |
change your own oil. no one will take better care of your car than you. |
Ya I was thinkin about doing it myself. How much oil do you all think I should put in and is something like mobil 1 or castrol gtx good?? |
I was in the same boat as you when I had my nissan. I couldn't find a place that I trusted with my car and certainly did not want to go to the dealer. In the end it was well worth my time to take the 15 or 20 minutes and read up on how to do an oil change, and then just go do it. It really is the easiest thing you can do with a car. Personally I use MOTUL 5w-40 synthetic oil, but the most common and probably best reviewed oil for this car is either the pennzoil platinum 5w-30 synthetic or the pennzoil synthetic euro blend 5w-40. Alot of people swear by Mobil one however with this car most Mobil 1 samples that have been sent out have come back with less than impressive results. Also I believe the stock speed 3 will hold just a tiny bit less than 6 quarts of oil. |
go to walmart and get 6 qts of either penzoil platinum 5w30 or shell rotella 5w40 (mazda's recommending the heavier 5w40 now due to fuel dilution). don't forget the filter too. |
Penzoil Platinum 5w30 FTW. Oil changes on the MS3 is a bit of a PITA if you don't have a filter wrench, so I'd recommend picking one up. Unless the previous owner did the spin on mod, then disregard. |
Wally-World recently had a promo on PP: Five-quart jugs for $5 after rebate. I bought six jugs, so I'm set for three years or so. I have the spin-on conversion and use K&N's version of Mazda's truck filter. The oil capacity is a bit over six quarts. I'd do them myself, but I take it to a trusted shop so there's a record. |
But rotella is not synethic. |
