are oil coolers necessary? I am replacing the engine in my black 07 ms3. we won't go into what happened but i do want to make this engine last as long as possible after putting in the $. first, are oil coolers necessary for someone who will drive their car very hard on AutoCross events and occasional spirited driving in the mtns? since i (will)have a brand new engine i would like to protect it as much as possible. would an oil catch can be a good idea? sounds like one to me but i will admit being on the noobish side. i was looking at JBR and Corksport. main diff to me is that the JBR offers a check valve in the stage 2 kit while Cork doesnt offer on at at all. does this limit the Corksport to lower powered setups? thanks! any help is appreciated. |
We have a stock oil cooler that uses coolant to cool the oil. With that said, I would recommend an upgraded radiator from ron Davis racing, I think mishimoto offers one as well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2 |

You, my prematurely posting friend, need to do a lot more reading on this site in order to understand the platform better. |
On a DD car an oil cooler isn't necessary, even an occasional spirited drive, you'll be fine. Frequent AutoX or Track days I would strongly suggest one if you don't have an upgraded Radiator. See links below. IMO, upgrade your radiator and don't fret with an oil cooler. http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...why-yes-56645/ http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...led-oil-73457/ An OCC question? Lack of research. Theres a How-To for this as well. For any MS3 (DD or track), I would strongly suggest one. I learned this from personal experience. Get the JBR. Get the Stage 2 with the check valve. The check valve prevents blowing up the OCC, amongst other things. I had a shitty secondary PCV valve, then switched to a quality check valve. |
