Oil in my CC now...

Hey all,
Ive had my oil CC on for about 4 weeks now and never got a drop of oil in it.I installed my DP about a week ago and now Im getting oil in it daily. How does the DP cause this to happen?

kingpin748 07-24-2008 08:47 PM

I think it increase the vacuum.

which CC are you using? Im looking to find a good one.

I am running the Greddy 15mm one.

I agree with kingpin
perhaps more agressive driving combined with a higher vac could easily pull out the vapor

More aggressive driving results in more boost and less vacuum. Also how would there be more vacuum from the engine with a downpipe?

Lymerock 08-06-2008 11:28 AM

pcv oil vapor isnt boost/vac related in the turbo boost sense

pcv = positive crankcase ventilation valve
as the engine pushes more boost, more gasses from the cylinders "blow by" the piston rings into the crankcase (this is theory im going off, not fact with this engine)
as crankcase pressures get higher the vented air volume increases and can pull the oil vapor out with it

Why such a change with the DP? If the car runs 16 psi regularly, is 18psi really going to put it "over the top"? This is tied to the smoking turbo issue. I don't have an answer myself but I will review the vacuum diagrams in the mazda fsm at home.

Lymerock 08-06-2008 12:08 PM

there are various factors that could be causing it
a slight increase in boost with a poor choice in oil could be the cause
different oils will foam more/less than others
anyway, if the CC is working, thats a good thing right?
if people didnt have oil exiting the pcv, they wouldnt need a CC, so imo, seeing some oil is par for the course, especially on a modded car
I wouldnt be too concerned unless it becomes extreme

I'm not sure how many more OCC threads I can answer but I'll try here

first what kind of OCC do you have?
if the drain is a petcock type you have had oil in there for a while but didn't notice because when you turn the valve "in" to drain, it's higher than the bottom of the OCC. Once it accumulates higher than the top of the turned in petcock, then you will drain captured junk.

I'll bet my car that any mod you make will have literally no affect on the oil accumulation in your OCC (that is if it's installed correctly in the actual PCV line between the OEM catch tank and intake manifold)
Remember that the oil accumulating in your OCC is happening under vacuume, not boost.

hope that helps...

Well just a update..Im still getting oil in the CC but just today my turbo started smoking.I was at the bank and I look behind to see smoke coming from my car. :(

I ordered a re-worked K04 from PG...
