Passenger Side Axle Removal Help

I am in the middle of replacing my clutch and am to the point of popping out my axles. I have read everything and looked at every diagram and I must be missing something. On the passenger side removal I have disconnected the bracket and popped the axle loose from the transmission. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove it; it will slide about a 1/2 inch away from the tranny but then hits up against the pulley tensioner on the engine. I am on a gen 1, so do I need to remove the belt and tensioner or is there a trick I am missing?

JTaylor, thanks for the link but that is actually the thread I am going off of. That DIY or any of the others I have found mention removing the tensioner. But I see absolutely no way to squeeze it out with the tensioner still on the block?

Then remove the tensioner...

The bracket on the axle shaft, should swivel around. Did you try that?

I had zero issues getting it to clear the block. Gen 1 also.

The bracket doesn't swivel in the least! Must be rusted on, I will try to swivel it and if it doesn't looks like time to remove the pulley. Thanks!

It will swivel. Just break it loose, and you should be good to go.
