pcv valve blew up again

dunno how or why but my pcv valve took a shit again. oil everywhere. cant afford to fix it. this car has got to go. hopefully the dealership that reinstalled the forged motor will honor a service warranty

skeeter149 05-03-2010 06:27 PM

bye bye we'll wish you well...

Sacrilicious 05-03-2010 06:46 PM

that sux, man...pics?

bova 05-03-2010 06:50 PM

isn't the pcv valve like $10?

802MS3 05-03-2010 06:52 PM

stop bitching and buy a check valve

06Speed6 05-03-2010 08:11 PM

How exactly did it "blow up"?

SSinstaller 05-03-2010 08:16 PM

How exactly does your PCV explode?? I've hit and held more boost than most on this engine and I'm still running my single OEM PCV valve... Do you still have the valve cover breather attached to the intake? Your not running that PTP plug in the VC are you??

MATT DAMOND 05-03-2010 08:17 PM

You sure the PCV valve exploded? Them things is pretty strong.

Edit: oaky, here's what it looks like after my hack saw exploded one.

turd burglar 05-03-2010 09:10 PM

ss yeah im runnin the ptp vc plug. never had an issue with it in since ive had the car back over 5-6000 miles. i cant get pics from under the car cuz its rainin like crazy, but the last time it blew up i was quoted at an 8.5 hour repair cuz it blew up where it all connects to the block. i still had over half my oil on the dipstick after a 50 mile drive before i stopped and smelled burning oil. it might be a small leak and its just sprayin onto the ps pulley which is slingin it all over my engine bay, but i dont have enough experience with what the whole pcv valve setup is supposed to look like and theres nobody around albany i'd trust to look at my car. dont think anyone else near albany has a speed3 on these forums, and guys in portland are the closest i can think of. so if anyone wants to volunteer some time that'd be cool

flyrevs2 05-03-2010 09:14 PM

must have something hooked up wrong, no way this should be blowing up, epoxy the joint on the new one to make sure it stays together

superskaterxes 05-03-2010 09:14 PM

wow i could swap the stock pcv in about 2 hours tops.

madvillain 05-03-2010 09:15 PM

OOOOOOOh man. Where to start...

tvissues 05-03-2010 09:17 PM

donate the motor to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm in need!!! haha

turd burglar 05-03-2010 09:25 PM

any suggestions on what the fuck to do, cuz im runnin outta cash thanks to this cars constant issues. i left shit how it was after the motor got put back in and it has run great up until today.

and go ahead and call me stupid noob dumb whatever i dont care, i just want suggestions or if anyone could come down and help. thanks

mtnrunner 05-03-2010 09:27 PM

turd, send me a pm with your number if you want. i am in corvallis and i have a stock pcv setup. we can compare mine to yours and figure out an easy way to fix it. i call bs on 8.5hr repair times.

tvissues 05-03-2010 09:30 PM

ok, you said you had the pill thing in right? well follow me here. under vacuum ur intake mani will suck air from the block through your pcv valve. under boost it closes, and well where does the excess pressure go then? that's where the valve cover breather comes into play. it allows air to then travel outward and into the intake system. over time... maybe 10k miles, oil may hinder and/or clog your pcv valve. if you were under boost when it happened i'd say your restrictor pill is causing too much of a restriction and it made the pcv valve pop out. if it did it under vacuum, i'd say it was clogged and the crank pressures built up and made it pop out. did it blow into pieces or is there just oil everywhere? i bet it poped out not blew up. so my suggestion. remove the damn pill!!!!!!!

turd burglar 05-03-2010 09:44 PM

^ sooooo went out to pull that pill out and..... its no longer in my valve cover. i lock tighted it in but its gone, couldnt have sucked itself back into the head, and it couldnt have made it thru the intake past my vc occ and it wasnt in the hose goin to the cc. maybe it popped off sometime if i pulled the hose off the vc, which i dont think i have but dont entirely remember.

turd burglar 05-03-2010 09:56 PM

should mention that i pulled off the im to clean it this weekend. im sure theres some correlation but i hooked everything back up and made sure it was all tightened down. go ahead and flame away, but i honestly dunno what coulda caused it after puttin it all back together with everything attached. fuck fuck fuckity fuck

Doc 05-04-2010 04:11 AM

if there was that much blowby to cause positive crank pressure like that (as in to blow the PCV off) wouldn't it just blow the dipstick out? It should not be breathing too hard under boost unless there are other issues.. or if the PCV valve is stuck open..

Either way i would have assumed it would just blow the dipstick out..

Pill or no pill.. I would have just thought youd have flying dipstick dramas.

Doc

bova 05-04-2010 06:08 AM

your pill must have been blown out and pushed down into the breather hose off the valve cover and caused a blockage there which caused the build up of pressure in the crankcase.

Dark 05-04-2010 06:45 AM

What are you doing modifying your car when it appears that you have a short budget?

I agree that the pill needs to be located and the first place you need to look is in the breather hose. Get it fixed and leave it alone.

superskaterxes 05-04-2010 07:25 AM

you realize that after u take the IM off its only like another 5 mins to replace your PCV right? if you dont have a full tool set and a place to do work (and the skills to do it) i would never do a built motor. you also need about 20% of your build price just in contingencies.

fixed.

Fagwagon 05-04-2010 07:44 AM

If you arent willing to work on the car yourself you prolly shouldnt have even gone this far with it...im not trying to be a dick head, but you have all the resources on this site to fix the problem, so just do it.

If you need help ask someone on the forums. If you need tools go fucking buy some. If you dont have the money, gett a credit card, if you cant do that i guess you is fucked.

I pulled my old turbo and mani and put in the big turbo and medival mani this weekend in my damn parking lot of my apartment complex..

06Speed6 05-04-2010 09:38 AM

You need to tear that engine apart and find that pill, if it isnt where its supposed to be then it is blocking something somewhere.

triplejumper18 05-04-2010 10:58 AM

Just out of curiosity who installed your built motor?

EDIT: Are you Creed?

Ummm...if the pill isn't where it HAS to be + PCV 'blow-up' = that's the most likely issue...no?

turd burglar 05-04-2010 05:39 PM

triplejumper yeah this is creed. and the pill isnt in the breather line i checked and double checked. i have a cc on my vc and its not blocking the inlet there either. not sure wtf happened to it, like i said coulda fell out if i ever pulled the breather line hose. one thing i noticed is when i first pulled the dipstick yesterday there was oil on it from top to bottom, so my question is where does it draw its vacuum from to keep the oil at the operating level on the stick, and is it possible that when i moved the dipstick to pull the mani that it somehow unseated itself from the oil pan and that where its sprayin from? ive never noticed how its connected into the pan

madvillain 05-04-2010 06:15 PM

Creed?!

turd burglar 05-05-2010 08:44 PM

well i believe that i fixed it. make sure the dipstick is all the way into the pan lol

Cataphract_40 05-05-2010 08:46 PM

secure that dipstick private!

skeeter149 05-05-2010 08:47 PM

glad you resolved it and it was small.

turd burglar 05-05-2010 11:39 PM
