Piston coating - yes or no?

I know that piston coating has several advantages like reduced friction, less engine noise, maybe a little less cylinder sleeve wear and thus is commonly recommended, but is it really necessary?
I just bought a set of forged CP pistons which are not coated by default. Well, I didn't know that there was such an option (wich may extend the delivery time by several weeks) when I ordered them. My first choice were Wiseco pisons, which are coated as well, but when I heard about the well known oil squirter issues I decided to take the ones from CP.
Meanwhile I probably would take the CP-E stage 2 pistons because of their improved piston design but this isn't an option anymore and the CP pistons are pretty good, too.
Of course I still could arrange a coating of the pistons by the machine shop but this would simply be much too expensive (comparig to the price difference CP <-> CP-E) since in this case also the bores would have to be enlarged a little bit.
My MS6 oem pistons were coated (which I didn't know before), same as the Gen2 MS3 pistons, but what about the Gen1 pistons - are they also coated?
Do I have to be afraid of any significant disadvange(s) when running non coated pistons?

bumping this up for curiosity...

It won't be the end of the world to run uncoated pistons. It'll help more in the long run but it won't make or break your engine. The coating will wear off over time due to normal engine wear. Yes it will help but it's your call as to if it is worth the extra dime to get it done.

Also since when did Cp-e stop making their pistons?

Update: Since the cylinder wall clearing would have been much too high running the CP pistons, resulting in piston slap and all of its negative consequences, I don't have a choice anymore. So, in the end this means some significant extra costs but also a perfect fitment of all parts...

Are we talking coated skirts or the full piston? I believe most pistons come with coated skirts from the factory now a days, at least in higher performance applications. If the OEMs are spending the extra money to do it, it must have some benefit.

Skirts. And yes many OEM pistons are coated but the cost is probably quite low for manufacturers as they have massive orders of pistons. And yes there are a good amount of benefits.

Yeah, I was just using that as an example, because OEMs will do ANYTHING to save a buck. So, if it didn't offer them benefits, they wouldn't bother. Even if that only means saving $1.00 per car. Lol
