Racing Beat CBE Installed.

Got this thing installed today, thanks to wassup61 - PG vendor (Thanks Jeff for the deal and speedy shipping!) He has restored my outlook on PG thru him.

Only thing I didn't like was the regular clamp, would have liked a band clamp or something better. Anyhooo it still got the job done for now.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe4.JPG
I was gonna try to remove the stock exhaust in one peice and saw that it was just to much work lol. So I pulled out the sawsaw. :silly:
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe5.JPG
Made the cut. Now becareful and try not to make the cut going toward the gas tank like I did and almost popped a hole in the tank, ooppssy. So everyone else should cut going toward the driver side, away from the gas tank lol.:nono:
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe6.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe7.JPG
Back stock part removed. Make sure you use some WD-40 on the rubber hangers, will make the job easier.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe8.JPG
Remove the support plate 12mm bolts, unbolt the stock remaining cbe from stock test pipe. 14mm nuts or the whole spring stud, which ever one gives first lol. (My test pipe is gutted).:boobies:
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe9.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe10.JPG
Get the RB CBE first section into the rubber hangers and bolt it up to the Stock Test Pipe (or whatever you got).
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe11.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe12.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe13.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe14.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe15.JPG
Now remove the stock bracket/brace for the rear rubber hanger (last one in the back). 10mm bolt. Replace it with one supplied by RB. It helps keep the dual outlets steady and from hitting the bumper sides of the exhaust outlet. Now make sure you snug the clamp supplied to the front and rear peice together. Set where you want the tips to be in out and leveled. Then tighten alittle bit at a time until it grips, check spacing and levelness again. Keep doing that until you get it where you want it tight.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe16.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe17.JPG
Before you start putting the plate/brace back up, clean the whole exhaust. All the finger prints, sut, grease, wd-40, pb blaster or whatever off the exhaust, you don't want them to be permenantly burned on it lol.

http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe20.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe21.JPG
I have set mine alittle in so the tips don't stick out as far. I didn't go back more because you don't want the rubber hanger rubbing on that sharp edge. :wink1:

Here is a short vid at idle and rev ups for now 22'ish megs WMV:
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bestanding.wmv

I reset the ECU and cranked it up, WOW it was quiet like stock. Warmed up about 5 minutes and started to rev it, still WOW quiet as stock. Have not test drove it for droning or anything like that yet.
I will have sound vids up this weekend, when I have some more time with my new GoPro Cameras!!!!!. Enjoy!. :boobies::tongue3:

Here are some videos: No drone, it's more quieter than stock lol. Sorry no outside vidz, was by myself on that and was raining out. Boring and about 29'ish megs WMV:
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/rbcbe/rbcbe2.wmv

94'ish megs WMV:

Update: Now I have the stock catted test pipe back on. 11'ish megs WMV:

Tomas 03-27-2009 09:03 PM

you don't wait around when you get your parts do you?
great write up.

Cornerfreak 03-27-2009 09:11 PM

I am interested in your reports for drone. RB has always made quality parts. Nice buy!

Arrowpoint 03-27-2009 09:20 PM

Wow! That really looks nice! Looking forward to hearing how it sounds and what your impressions are.

wassup61 03-27-2009 09:22 PM

Damn, it looks even better in person! This is seriously a sexy time exhaust, bio, when you get on it, it will be just the right volume.

I am glad you like it. Let me know if you need anything else.

Will do.........oh that GB on the Stainless Works DP, I posted on there let me know what you can do, Thanks.

specvspeedfreak 03-27-2009 09:41 PM

its quieter than stock you and no drone... you will find out soon...

broncoblitz 03-27-2009 09:52 PM

Looks good! Probably the only exhaust I am considering.

sweetpickles 03-27-2009 10:07 PM

Yah, now that the Cobb is out of the equation, this would be the one for me if I decide to ditch the stocker. Me likey quiet. Only thing I wish was different was retention of the single tip. Minor quibble though, all things considered.

Looking forward to clips and further impressions. Awesome writeup, thanks much!

bioevolve 03-27-2009 10:09 PM

Yeah it was either COBB or RB and COBB has Discontinued theirs, so RacingBeat gotz my monies. :neener:

Hectik1 03-27-2009 10:14 PM

I LOVE those tips!

Haltech 03-28-2009 02:34 AM

Doesnt look bad at all. Wish the tips were a little larger in diameter if i was going with the system. Looks solid and the huge resonator and triple stacked muffler is going to keep it quiet :)

steven88 03-28-2009 03:18 AM

is this a 3 inch exhaust?

bioevolve 03-28-2009 06:38 AM

Well, in their description it states 3" O.D. But still bigger than stock.
Since I have this on, with a gutted stock test pipe do I now have sorta a TBE now??? LOL.

18psiWhiteMS3 03-28-2009 06:44 AM

Great write up and install. Im just not sure if im a fan of the dual tipps. But Otherwise great job being diff

ElBartoRex 03-28-2009 07:22 AM

I love dual tips-- very euro.

is it just me or does that muffler look IDENTICAL to the one of the Cobb system?

I am waiting for my mild steel HKS to rust through so I have an excuse to get a quieter system.

I wouldn't say TBE, but maybe TestpipeBE haha

popecruz 03-28-2009 08:42 AM

+1 the dual tip looks AWESOME, grats on the new exhaust.

Crossbow 03-28-2009 01:45 PM

Thank's a ton for the photos and feedback! Appreciate it!

steven88 03-28-2009 02:43 PM

bio can you take some more pictures from afar? i'm interested in knowing how it looks like from about 5-10ft

Man that sure looks sharp. I gotta get one.

Frequentflyer 03-28-2009 08:18 PM

Racing Beat has always made quality products. I used to have alot of RB's stuff on my Miata. Their exhausts always have beautiful welds and come nicely polished. I'm not a big fan on the dual tips at all, but it's a nice exhaust.

smakdown61 03-28-2009 08:57 PM

They should have bent the tips up a little so it would sit flush in that little pocket.

Steve0 03-29-2009 10:59 AM

So, has the volume picked up after a couple days?

ctbadley 03-29-2009 07:19 PM

What kind of power gains can you expect from this system?

Still the same so far, maybe later after some more miles. It should gain some more sound.
Remember I do have a gutted stock test pipe on there also.

They could have made that last bend alittle ealier to fill in the top gap some and shorter hanger.

Little to none, lets it breathe alittle better when you get DP or bigger turbo lol.

DeadWayt 03-30-2009 07:21 AM

I put mine in Saturday night and my sentiments echo bio's exactly. It's quieter at cruise, at idle, and on deceleration, but has a much snarlier, more aggressive tone when you're really getting on it.

This exhaust really mellows out the boomy bass note that comes into the cabin with the stock CBE, especially when lifting off the throttle around 3,000RPM. I'd recommend this in a heartbeat to anybody who wants something tame for DDing but aggressive when you're putting the foot down. I put about 150 miles on it this weekend and I'm very, very pleased so far.

This is how the car should have sounded from the factory. :fing02:

And thanks to Jeff @ PG for the deal.

steven88 03-30-2009 07:55 AM

so indeed it is quieter than stock CBE?

when i first bought my ms3, i thought i was crazy....but when people started to ride along with me...they were like "u already put exhaust on this thing?"

thats how damn loud this stock cbe is...LOL

DeadWayt 03-30-2009 08:04 AM

It's quieter when you want it to be quiet, and louder when you want it to be loud. This exhaust is not only well-built, it's psychic.

GOT 2RBO 03-30-2009 11:30 PM

I put mine on over a week ago on my turbo xs stealthback (catless downpipe and race pipe), and even on there with no cats, the exhaust is pretty damn quiet. Still ZERO noise inside the cabin with zero drone, but on the outside after breaking it in for about 200 miles, boy did the exhaust open up. Its deep and aggressive but smooth and toned down. I am actually contemplating deleting the resonator infront of the muffler to get some more noise. But it does sound great, sounds like a wrx from behind. Can't hear it revving up inside the car, but when you stand behind, damn it sounds sick. Very very happy with this exhaust.

bykeryder4life 03-31-2009 12:50 AM

This will be the cbe i get if i ever get one for my lonely cpe dp... I think the dual tips are more stock looking to someone like a cop than the stock large single tip. I wanna see pics of it dirty as fuck with soot from the exhaust....Bioevolve your write-ups are great I love reading them. pics ftw

steven88 03-31-2009 01:08 AM

is it just me....or is the unequal length not looking good? just my preference

glocK23 03-31-2009 02:23 AM

I like it.

miguelbates 03-31-2009 05:21 AM

sick! the dual tips is very different! good write up / post! +1

GOT 2RBO 03-31-2009 01:50 PM

the offset tips mimmick the look of a porsche's exhaust. I love it personally.

As for the black soot build up, its nothing like the stock. It just gives the pipes a brownish gold color, it doesnt turn it into black chalk like the stock tip. Weird.

The taper of the bumper would make it very awkward if they were the same length. Either the inside pipe would look tucked, or the outside one would look ridiculously long.

And Crossbow, lemme know if you want a ride-along.

Crossbow 03-31-2009 08:08 PM

DeadWayt,
Might have to take you up on that offer one of these nice weekends! Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Greyspeed3 04-01-2009 09:56 AM

Looks good

bioevolve 04-02-2009 03:39 PM

500+ mile update:
Sound seems to be getting alittle deeper. Tips are getting sut on them, I'm running a little rich lol.
Since the exhaust is now breathing better, my boost is steadily creeping and now I get boost cut around 5400-5800rpms 20-21psi & 22-24psi spikes!!!!!!! Did several runs to verify it wasn't a fluke. This is with Stage2 91 103.
Guess I will have to step down to Stage 1+SF 91 103 now until I get ATR for the AP.
Row #21 is where it cut on me.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/boostcut0.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/boostcut1.JPG

DeadWayt 04-03-2009 12:13 PM

Do you have an aftermarket downpipe or a gutted cat? Surprised it made a big enough difference that you started creeping/cutting.

*Edit: Picture clearly shows you don't have a test pipe. Sorry.*

bioevolve 04-03-2009 01:59 PM

I have a gutted stock test pipe on.

DeadWayt 04-03-2009 02:51 PM

Do you have any useful logs from before the CBE install? It's not that I don't believe what you're saying, I'm just surprised that a cat-back made that much of a difference in restriction.

bioevolve 04-03-2009 07:58 PM

Here are 2 from 2 days before the CBE install.

You're right, it did that same thing but not so high on the boost. It cut between row 19 & 20 at a lower rpm.

Went to stage 2+SF 91 103 for now, have not WOT yet. Awaiting 100 miles and key cycles.

Bio said "Only thing I didn't like was the regular clamp, would have liked a band clamp or something better. Anyhooo it still got the job done for now."

I'm considering the Racing Beat exhaust. I wanted to ask you if you think this stainless clamp form jegs would work instead of the one supplied?
Would the 3" size be the one to get?
JEGS Preformed Stainless Steel Exhaust Band Clamps - JEGS

Thanks

bioevolve 04-07-2009 09:26 PM

That should work, I was looking at that on Jeg's and Summit Racing. Might order me one to try out also.

bioevolve 04-13-2009 12:54 PM

Still getting overboost, just got a cel P0234 overboost condition. Beta to the Final maps stage 1 thru stage 2, tried 6 different maps.
I just took out 2 shims from Forge BPV with Blue spring, hopefully that will fix it. We'll see in the next couple of days, if not, change to the yellow spring with 2 shims and go down from there. That should help with holding boost lower throughout the rpm range right?
19-21psi upto 5000-5500rpms is great until I hit boost cut lol.

miguelbates 04-13-2009 03:59 PM

i lost my springs :( the damn thing came with it and i misplaced the f***ing box..FAIL

Sorry to hear.

If I can't remedy the problem by friday, I will put the stocked catted TP back in to create some more back pressure and slow the stock turbo down. :hitwithrock:

Will have to drive it after restting the ecu, hopefully it will fix my overboost condition. 2 shims and blue spring back in the Forge BPV. I know I could use a BC, but don't have one in hand so the stock catted tp should work. We'll see.

Arrowpoint 04-18-2009 03:34 AM

Hey Bio, did you check to see how well lubed the forge is when you changed the spring/shims? Could be sticking?

Yeah, that was the first thing (relubed the piston and o-rings) I did before switching out shims and springs lol.:usa2:

bioevolve 04-24-2009 04:47 PM

Ok put the on Beta Stage 1 93 103r and it has calmed down the overboost, I will have to play with ATR with the Stage 2 stuff later.

Got a 3" step band clamp off ebay:

http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bandclamp1.JPG
Checking fitment.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bandclamp2.JPG
Putting together down by the Y-pipe part makes it alot easier than trying to put it together at the joint.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bandclamp3.JPG
Slide it up and start torquing lightly and you hold it in place then snug that thing down hard.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bandclamp4.JPG
Done. I like this WAY better than a regular exhaust clamp.
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bandclamp5.JPG
http://www.freedomcomputers.net/ms3/...bandclamp6.JPG
I had to smash this heat sheild down to get my ratchet , extension, swivel & socket on.

It bends back nicely lol. Enjoy!
