ring end gap 1 Attachment(s) I have these nice new manleys on stock bore with the supplied rings Per man spec, assuming my simple arithmetic is correct .024 top and bottom anyone see that as a bit much?? |
All the sales adds for them recommend clearance: .0035" measured 1.100" from the bottom of the oil ring groove. if that's any help cause i have no clue about this stuff but i am planning to order a set for a built engine. |
There are a lot of factors into the correct ring gap & manufacturer specifications correlate to sustained use at a particular power level. If you are daily driving a built motor that will occasionally see 30+ lbs of boost, then that may not require such a loose gap. If you are building a dedicated purpose built car, then sticking to the recommended gaps is the way to go. |

I wish most machine shops had the patients to bore and hone a cylinder properly to make big ring gap not so much of an issue. I won't bitch too much about this, but the end assembler should always check the bore size very carefully with the proper tools to verify the proper piston to cylinder wall clearance. Also communicate with your machine shop what type of rings you will be running. |

only tidbit I'd add is the top ring on a yam 2 stroke had a "L" cross section ring with the portion contacting the land notched at the gap to allow space for the pin and still keep a tighter end gap on the bore. but never measured gap, or thought about it at all |
In only post useful and helpful information. |
