RPMs Not Dropping Quickly When Disengaging Clutch?

Searched and couldn't find anything. This is more-so out of my own curiosity - not necessarily an engine problem...I hope. I come from a "drive by cable" Jeep, so I'm not use to an ECU driven car.

Anyways, I noticed shifting from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, my RPMs appear to drop normally and rather quickly in between shifts when disengaging the clutch.

Shifting from 4th, 5th, and 6th, the needle almost appears to "stall out" (as in the needle holds at the RPM range) before dropping. And this is very minimal, maybe a half a second if not a tad longer.

Not sure if anyone can give me an explanation as to why this happens? I'm assuming it has something to do with the ECU and possibly emissions in the higher gears. I didn't notice this happening for the entire ownership of the vehicle. Maybe since I've had the VVT replaced by the dealer.

Guess I'm not alone upon further research: Rev Hang - Mazda3 Forums : The #1 Mazda 3 Forum

The technical term is "rev hang."

Any other insight is welcomed.

Mine started doing this after I fitted a single mass flywheel, I have no idea any it's doing it.

Mine does this as well, doesn't bother me at all.
Can't remember if it also did this on stock software.

Friend of mine had a Nissan 300zx which did the same.
He thought it might be so because when you shift quickly, the revs keep hanging for half a second, so the pick up in the next gear will be a bit smoother?

Sounds legit, but don't know if it's true.

Normal.... Keeps the RPM's up while you shift.

Saves your clutch and motor from shitting itself.

I noticed it too. I guess either due to the weight of the flywheel or maybe its in the ecu for a smoother shift? Either way shouldnt hurt the car
