I just started working again myself so it will be a month or so before I can tackle it but I bet I can get a working prototype before christmas. I don't know how you ended up designing the velocity stacks, but there has been a lot of research on the topic and you should be able to find some 'ideal' shapes. A lost wax method will probably give you the best results for fabrication but it won't be cheap.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score One of my diplomas is in mechanical engineering Tool & Die (includes molds). A "lost wax" method would be perfect except that I would have to front the money for 1,000+ units. My wife and I just dodged a bullet yesterday when we found out that we don't have to claim bankruptcy. Instead we are presenting an consumer proposal which will take 5 years to pay off and still ding our credit. The good news is that we will get back on our feet faster and we should have extra cash come the new year. So the delay is really not that long. A lost wax method would also lock in one design, where as my method allows for a change in runner length, plenum size, inlet angle, without having to retool. A sheet metal intake would be nice, but my design is on the high end of the difficulty scale to build. Yes it can be done but at a high cost. The welding on my design is kept to a minimum and is very simple (read: cheep). Carbon fiber is cheep to work with in comparison to metal for a limited production run with complex shapes such as this manifold. CF is also very light not only keeping weight down but also reducing stress on the manifold. CF also doesn't conduct heat like metal does. So intake temps can be kept down. As for the velocity stacks, I did a lot of research on them. Long vs. short, Taper effects on velocity, pressure, swirl ect. I tested around 15 different variations of the velocity stacks before landing on this one. The greatest benefit of this design is that the change in port shape from round to "square" cannot be achieved any smoother resulting in very smooth flow given the constraints. Ideally the best setup (in my opinion for smooth equal flow) would be an Individual throttle body setup into perfectly round runners... Obviously that's not possible for this engine. I enjoy discussing this stuff. Keep it coming.

Our largest creditor just approved the proposal (majority wins)! That means no mater what the other creditors say it's a go! (we still have to wait for the other creditors to vote. The latest the proposal will go through it Dec 21. I'm planning on having a working prototype by the end of march (Moving and wedding in Jan).

| Not Ranked : 0 score Ok, sorry there wasn't more of an explanation with the original pic. I was going to add something sooner but I've been really busy and really sick. That mani is for a different engine - the cbr engine you can see between the middle 2 runners hooked up to the dynomite engine dyno. I was really surprised to hear you would have to front the cost for 1000+ units for lost wax since this was a one-off design. It also has a BOV built into the plenum for backfires - with the Haltech Platinum Sport 2000 all the spark plugs fire when you turn on the ecu so any time an intake valve is open you can get a pretty violent explosion. This shouldn't be as much of an issue if you stay 100% DI, but as soon as you add the port injection you have extra fuel sitting in the mani. Blowing apart a one-off carbon mani is expensive (don't ask me how I know) so I recommend you look into the BOV thing. Speedsixxx - I'm way too busy to make one for the MZR right now, and the cost to make just one more would be too high to be worth it. This one is on a cbr powered tube frame car that weighs 430lbs.
