Shifter overkill

I plan on buying the total shifter upgrade from pg which includes the e4p sts, twm aluminum base bushings and pg shift weight but I also like the looks of the e4p shift knob. So my question is this, is this much of a change to my shifter help? Or will it actually hurt my driveability?

jack_hammer 04-16-2010 08:40 AM

that's all a matter of opinion. i think lots of people have short throw shifters and base bushings. and a fair amount of those probably have weighted knobs as well.

just don't try to put a shift plate on there with the sts. that would be bad.

Doc 04-16-2010 08:43 AM

im about to grab myself one of these... with the bushes too

I hadn't planned a shift plate but now you've piqued my curiousity. Why would it be bad to have both the sts and plate?

Using a plate and short throw makes the shifts too short and undriveable. A few people have tried it.

not to mention the loss in leverage against the gears.

it'll be a test of how strong you are if you can even get your car into gear with a SSP+STS... if you're interested in the SSP, go to jamie's website and buy his set, you'll save money... i got a E4 knob, SSP, weight, bushings or $130 maybe?

Wow that's definitely a sweet deal but the main reason I'm ordering the sts is bc I hate the stock shifter height.

I just ordered the e4p sts that comes with aluminum bushings and the shifter weight for $150 the weird thing is that pg wants 180 for their kit but if u order the same parts piecemeal it comes out to 170? What gives? And the sts comes with bushings of it's own so the rkm (not twm sorry) aren't even necessary... I've got no beef with pg but I have no clue why they would do that

Doc 04-17-2010 01:50 AM

does the PG one come with its own bushings?

re read.. yeah it does.. i dont get it either

MS3-a(sore)ASS-rex 04-17-2010 10:36 AM

Yea idk if they were tryna pull a fast one or just an honest mistake, the latter I think is more likely, but I saved myself $30 by reading the item description before ordering.

Doc 04-19-2010 08:48 AM

yeah i dont think they are trying to stuff us about..

I purchase the total shift improuvement from pg and its days and night compared with stock shifter. More precise shift every time.

I Have problem with the shrot throw himself. after three week of use it's came all lose like 1/4 inch of play. It's like if i lost a bushing between the 2 shaft.

I'm waiting for an answer from PG.

I use an E4P short shifter, with the heavy weighted knob, the bushings, and the short shift plate and I like the way the car drives. The driveability of the car is not worse and it is not better. This would be a mod I would say makes the car more fun to drive if anything.

I want the whole thing! Nothing like tapping the shift knob with my finger and having it go into gear.

Makes my gear changes go lightning fast :)

ilocano_621 04-27-2010 07:00 PM

Do people usually go for STS rather than just the plate?

MS3-a(sore)ASS-rex 04-27-2010 07:45 PM

I know alot of ppl on this forum highly recommend the plate but my reasons for buying the sts are bc the stock shifter height actually bothered my wrist.

I just installed the sts and bushings today the weight I had installed last week when I had recieved it. Just with the new weight shifter feel was much better. Install was very straight forward with the sts although I didn't recieve any instructions with the kit so I used the manual on twm's website. Construction of the sts was excellent all welds looked strong and clean install was easy in my opinion but I've done several before. I did however encounter a problem with the ball for the reverse lockout bushing. The original ball was actually smaller and I had to grind this one down in order to get the assembly to go into 1st and 2nd gear. Other than that no problems and I find the car much easier to drive with a far superior shifter feel.

Feargod69 05-06-2010 08:01 PM

As for the shifter problem it was a screw with no lock tread... details...

superskaterxes 05-06-2010 08:21 PM
