Default shifting issues

when im in park, its smooth shifting but when im driving, it gets held up on something then goes into gear. Also when im moving and try to shift, especially into first, it sounds like something is winding up. My foot is all the way to the ground on the clutch too. I have no idea whats going on. The guy who i bought it from said he put new forks and syncros in it. There is a whining sound when im in park and when i step on the clutch, it goes away. It doesnt get any easyer when it warms up either. I just changed to xt-m5-qs. The problem is still there.

Are you implying that you're downshifting into first gear?

Sorry i ment neutral. It doesnt just do it going into first. The winding sound is worse going into 1st. And the clutch is in the whole time. Im not downshifting into 1st. I heard the sound downshifting into 2nd. And i just wanted to see if it did it in any other gear.

Don't downshift into first unless you're at a complete stop or a REALLY slow crawl.

As for the other gears, are you rev-matching when you downshift?

How long have you been driving cars with a manual transmission?

EDIT:
In what gear(s) does the shifter "get held up by something"? Is it when downshifting? Upshifting? Both?

I only down shift to 4 3 or 2. It does it if im just moving and i step on the clutch, and go to engage another gear, it makes that sound. Especially if i just put little pressure on it instead of fully engaging. I will try to get it on video.

wow, no help from these turds. I think you're hearing some normal synchro noise, but nt sure why you are having trouble getting into gears, but it is probably related to those synchros, but could be clutch maybe. I haven't had mine long enough to know yet.

Well lets talk about the function of syncros. What do they do and y? I know tht gears arn't grinding and its not from fluid. All signs point to syncros. Could be..

Offtopic, but are you sure your car doesn't have HPFP internals?

I find it strange (also worrisome) that your car is modded as much as it is and doesn't have 'em.

Also, do you have a short shift plate? When I had one, it added just enough height that it would make contact with the bottom of my intake. I had no problems shifting at a standstill, but in motion I would have difficulty or wouldn't be able to engage certain gears. Probably not your issue -- just throwing it out there...

3. The cake is a lie.
4. ?????
5. Profit.
6. when you think you should downshift into first just go to second instead.

I have the exact same issue on my 09. I like to fully clear the gearbox at each stoplight, you know like shift 1 2 3 4 5 6 back to 1 with the clutch in, and it helps temporarily, but my gears do the same thing where it feels like you have to push it through something and then it goes into gear, and its kinda crunchy. I have a whine that goes away with the clutch in as well, and I am running the XT as well. Either both of our cars have the exact same tranny issue, or its just the nature of the car.

Sorry, i forgot to mention it but like a week after my hpfp thread, i got the internals in. Then about a week later, i did the trans fluid. I only drove the car w/o the hpfp for a couple weeks without boosting at all. I ALWAYS rev match. I only drive 10 mi. To work and 90% is highway. I dont down shift to 1st unless im moving 10 or less. And when i do, i match revs. And trolling is for faggets.

When you did the trans fluid did you accidentally loosen any other bolts besides the drain plug? Also do you have an upgraded trans mount?

If i have an upgraded trans mount, i wouldnt know about it. No short shift plate. I only touched the two bolts on the trans. Drain and fill. The two bolts look exactly the same.

The shifting is flawless when im not moving. And the faster i go the harder it gets. I don't think it should be doing that if i got my foot on the clutch. I mean in theory, it should be like butter no mater how fast or what gear i engage as long as my foot is on the clutch. Am i right. Are there guys out there that can engage a gear perfectly without any force?

The shifting's always been effortless for me as well with this car. I definitely don't need to force anything into gear.

Edit:
Just came across this thread -- still reading it. May not apply to your situation, but I suggest you read it:

No luck. As mentioned in the thread linked above, unlike the MS6, the MS3 has a non-adjustable clutch pedal.

I read through the FSM for both cars and confirmed this.

Oddly, the MS3 manual still has a procedure for checking the pedal disengagement point:

Not sure what the point of this is if you can't alter it...

As far as the shifter getting caught up, another thing to consider is the reverse lock-out gate.
Over time it can become grooved or notched out, as it's made of plastic. That could possibly explain bad shifting in first/second gear. The other gears, not so much...

JBR makes a plate that addresses this.

Grooved stock lock-out:

w/ JBR plate:

Edit:
...aaand your shifter works flawlessly at a standstill. So this post won't help.
