why waste time fucking around with that EWG piping when you can replace something as easy as a hot pipe? |
True....and changing the hot pipe might be more of a viable option.... But it is still more fab work!!! hahahaha.... at this point all I can do is laugh |
I still can't believe how 'at home' that IM looks in that engine bay. Unless you new what you were looking at, it just looks like that's what belongs there. |
Thank Man!! That was my plan... it took over a year to (working at it off and on) to get it to this point. |
I know it's all about function over form but your build looks really clean and I love the color you chose for the IM and VC. If it's going to perform as good as it looks you've def. got a winner! |
Looking nice man, it never fails that there is more fab work. |

IMO, you may be best off modifying the hot pipe though, and keeping it further away from the whole EWG assembly, just cause that thing is gonna get hot. I know you have access to a weld guy, but if you ever need help, just lemme know :rambo: |
1 Attachment(s) Crappy cell phone pic...The w/g tube is now ready to be welded, last thing left to do is the I/C piping over the engine bay, and those parts will not be here until Friday. |
looks good demon!!! |
long weekend man, I wanna hear its running by this weekend lol. |
Thanks guys!! Smitty, you might get to hear it Saturday. The I/C piping came in a day early, so I hot footed down to the garage and fabbed up the hot pipe. I only had to make one weld seam, which will be easy to hide. Topped off the coolant, and I am heading to the welder tomorrow first thing in the morning...crossing fingers, I will start it up this weekend. |
Nice! ... I have to go pick up my new exhaust tomorrow and have some stuff to do Saturday and Sunday but if you get it running let me know. |
videos!! |
IN FOR VIDS  |
This weekend must be the weekend for project cars starting as i might hearing the roar of my project car that i have been building for a WHILE now!!! Man i need to get some of these speeds from in front of my house!! http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...t-build-67223/ Good luck to ya!! |
2 Attachment(s) Beat you to the start up Charles!!! The car...she lives!!! Pulled the fuel pump fuse, cranked the car over until oil pressure came up, then installed the fuse, cycled the key a few times to prime the fuel system. Then, what seemed like, in less than one revolution of the motor, it started right up, and idled like a brand new engine. Once the weather clears up, I will be doing a road test. |
so sick. |
OCC!!! |
Buddy, I am working as fast as I can... I want to go!!! |
Good Job Scott! You're a champion |
Congrats. Well deserved victory. |
engine bay looks sexy...wanna hear how she sounds |
That's what i call a work of art. Beautiful engine bay and nice intake. |
Yea that engine bay is a work of art. Would love mine to have such a clean setup. Very nice. |
Very clean!!!!! the write and pics will help me alot when mines starts! thanks.. |
that looks sick.. wanna hear a video of that bad boy |
Thanks Guys!! I just got in from letting the car go through a full heat cycle, to check for leaks. I found one leak from the tubing that runs from the heater core to the head, evidently I had not slid the clamp on far enough and it leaked. No big deal, easy to get to and easy to fix. Topped off the coolant again, let it warm back up to verify the leak was fixed. Fuel trims are positive, which is weird for my car, the trims have always been negative. On the stock ported intake mani the trims were so neg. it would throw a rich code. A small adjustment in the MAF table would bring them back into check. After the intake mani that I fabbed was installed, the trims were still neg, but I only had to make less than a 2 point adjustment to bring them into check (this was with the GT2871 ATP flange turbo) Now, with the new setup, the trims are positive. I will go over all the connections, and it might be as simple as a fitting that I missed. Or, could it be the 35r moves that much more air, even at idle, to cause the trims to run positive. I don't know, I will look into it to see what I can find. |
Sounds good man so maybe some videos tomorrow if all goes well? |
Sorry, I will not be working on it tomorrow.. too many family things to do. Besides, the video will not sound much different than most modded speed 3's. I also have about 300 - 500 miles to go before I will be doing any tuning or romping on it. |
O yeah I forgot tomorrow is easter. Hope everything goes smoothly for you. Good luck. |
maby you fixed the leaks you compensated for before? |
Yes, that theory has crossed my mind. I need to be a little more scientific about it, I will endeavor to persevere.... lol :D Edit: No, I do not think that will be the problem. trims were negative before, not indicating a leak, now they are positive, indicating that there might be a leak... |
In for 10sec 1/4...:wank::wank: |

Call me if you need anything at all man. And good gawd..... your engine bay is so freaking good looking. Congrats Scott! |
Thanks DJ!!! I did a smoke test on the intake tract, and found a leak around the intake manifold. After a few heat cycles the bolts must have loosened just a bit. I went through all of them and re-torqued them, smoke test came back good. I then zeroed out the SB, and the trims went back to the way they were prior to the motor install. I pulled just a touch of fuel at idle just to make sure everything is going to react correctly. At idle the LTFT's are -2.3 to -3.0 and STFT's are about +.8. More progress will be made on the car later this week, hopefully the monsoon season is just about over here and I can get to driving the car. In the video, the shot of the dash hawk is crappy, but the upper left hand box shows the LTFT, and the upper right hand box shows the STFT. |
Jesus, zero motor vibes on start up and rev's. Some serious motor mounts? Hahaha. Everything sounds tight man. |
freggin allen bolts! the mark that "Scott was here" I cussed every time i took one off Chris' car... I'm sure the only difference you are seeing now is the difference from what's scaled on the cpe flash to your difference in inlet vs maf housing... |
so do you think its the sheer size of the 35 that makes that coolant line an issue? havent heard of any problems with that before this is why im askin. Looks sexy by the way, good work man! |
I have been running SU's full motor mounts for about 2 years now, I have zero complaints about them, they hold the motor in place. I need a different inlet to mate up to CP-E's big MAF housing. I am not sure why the coolant line was in the way, all I know it was in my way...so I moved it. hahaha!! |
It almost looks like a still picture with audio.... that engine is so damn motionless. |
