Default Short Shift Plate Problem

Last week I was slamming through my gears and the shifter rod popped off the ball of my SURE Motorsports SSP. Luckily I was able to coast over to the side of the road, so that I could pop it back on. Today I was racing a GTI and it happened again!! I do not know what is more embarrassing, the ass handing I gave the GTI or me having to pull over to pop it back on. I have had my SSP for about 40k miles without any issues. I wonder if the ball on the SSP is starting to wear down...or is the cheap semi plastic/metal clamp on the shift rod wearing out?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Time to get in touch with JBR for a properly-engineered SSP.

A SURE product failed?! I don't see how this could happen, their engineering department just got a fresh box of crayons in.

Best to go with the plate that mounts on the shifter itself. Twm or cs.

I know SURE sucks, which is why I am slowly transitioning to SURE-less. I already lost $500 replacing their engine mounts.

I would go to a short throw shifter, but it is 4x the $ and I am not a fan of how short the shifter is in the center console. Ergonomically it is lower than the arm rest and I would imagine that drinks in the drink holder would get in the way (this is my daily driver).

I am leaning towards a JBR replacement, but it appears all of the manufacturers have the same ball on the plate for the shift rod to attach. JBR does have the 1" riser and perhaps it alters the angle enough to prevent it from popping off under intense shifting???

In the end, there has to be a better way of attaching the shift rod or improving the SSP design. Does anyone have any ideas?

Go to eBay. And buy the Ralco short shifter you can offer them $100 and they will take it. It's literally the same thing as TWM's $250 version. There's a review on here somewhere for it. It works great I'll be picking one up soon.

I wonder if it is possible to replace the cheap plastic holder at the end of the shift rod with something sturdier? Perhaps attach some sort of swivel ball joint to the end (sort of like a miniature tie rod).

Then drill out the ball on the SSP and replace it with a bolt coming up from the bottom. Slide the ball joint over the bolt and clamp it down with a nut and washer. I have a vision in my head that might work if anyone can follow what I am trying to say?

I think slamming through the gears is actually the root of the problem. I could granny shift and shit all over a GTI. These are cable shifters that need to be treated with some decency. My 2 cents.

This and this x2. No need to slam gears.
