Smoky stock turbo.... Well here it is, after reading a lot about turbo seal that go bad, it finally happen to me. I have a 2008 MS3 with only 15k on it. Got the SRI 2 year ago and the AP in nov. 2010. It happen a few day's ago, got to work and i was smoking a last cigarette in the parking lot with the window crack a bit, the car was idling and then i smell a scent of burn oil, got out of the car and got behind, there i see a big cloud of white smoke. I rev'd the car and it cleared out but came back a few seconds later. So this afternoon i called the technical advisor i alway's talk to in the last 3 years. By the way the Mazda i go to is the biggest and the one that sells the most Mazda in the world, no jokes, it's named "AlbiMazda". When i got my car in may of 2008 they had 12 Speed in all the color. Anyway so far i alway's been happy with the service and all but this afternoon i got a bit worried. My technician told me that Mazda knows about the problem with the turbo and will probably just changed it if i could prove all my oil changes for the last 3 years. "Pierrick" told me that i should have 9 oil changes done so far, 3 years / by 4 months intervals that means at the least 9, but 8 will probably make it. So i explain that i did very little milleage since i got my car and even less in the last years because of 2 wounds to the upper body, i could barely drive during those 2 accidents. I only have 6 oil changes done so far, that means 2500mile and 6 months intervals in between. "Pierrick" told me that "MazdaCanada" will probably try to fight it unless i have those 8 oil changes. Funny thing he also insist that all he need is a paper proving it's been done somewhere else, so i told him i didnt go to another place and then he just repeated it but really slowly, so that my dumbass brain could understand that he didnt give a shit as long as i could bring him a invoice that says its been done. So thats where i am right now, iv got to find 2 receipt that say's that 2 oil changes as been done somewhere in the middle of they other ones. So this week-end i will have to put the air box back in, remove the RMM (never know) and put the map back to stock. If you guy's have any tought or info to feed me with i will be happy to read about it. Edit: Im french-canadian as some of you already knows so be gentle on the grammars and all...... |
so raise your idle and go with 5w40 and call it a day..your turbo is probably perfectly fine |
Well you did install an AP tune and now you get to deal with the results? It is not Mazda's fault that you pushed the stock turbo beyond its (already) limited efficiency. That being said, they are essentially telling you that you MUST drive your car a specified number of miles and get a specified number of oil changes within that period of time WHICH IS COMPLETE CRAP. I would be pissed, too.... Usually people act differently when you show up in person instead of hiding behind a phone. I would give that a shot. |
I did my turbo seals about a month ago at 16k miles and only had five receipts for oil changes. I guess Mazda Canada is more strict about that policy. Basically the guy at my dealer told me that at such low milage they'll replace it anyway. But really you can just go with what Bova said. Raise the idle to 950 and you may not even need to change to 5w40. |

its not a freaking bad seal! for the love of god, its the pressure in the crankcase that doesn't allow the oil to drain out of the turbo which pushes it passed the seals, this doesn't mean the seals are shot. upping your idle with the AP will alleviate that pressure and going with a thicker oil will also help to prevent it from being forced passed the seals. your turbo is fine, the ap did nothing to it. |

For now i got 2 more receipt to make Mazda happy so i will go to my appointement next tuesday and we will see from there. Tx guy's.....:fingersx: |
Read my post about the PVC. They will probably do the valve cover change instead. Worked for my car. |
Thats freaking BS. It says right in the manual every 7500 miles. So if you've put 15k on the car then thats only 2 oil changes no matter how much time has passed. Freaking ridiculous. |

Tx and i will updated... |
Make sure the receipts for the oil changes have the vehicle VIN number on it or at least your license plate. Mazda Canda are full of it. |

7500 miles for oil changes...how do I know...the manual.... which then allowed me to get my engine replaced under warranty. |
Hey, whoa, I already pointed that out. So I'm the hero here, not you! |
losers synthetic oil last forveer, all you need is a one micron filter |
Okay here is they updates, i went to the dealer yesterday and left my car there. Today they call me and the turbo as to be change, they will install the new one tomorrow. I also ask for the front suspension and the sway bar bushings to be check, oh and my SRI bracket broke the battery undertray bracket, so i ask for that to be change too. So far they didn't ask anything about oil changes receipt, probably some stupid stuff they say to scare people off, anyway my ride is suppose to be ready tomorrow night. I wont be putting my goodies back this week-end in case something go wrong with the repairs in a week or so. I will probably do it the 2nd of april at the same time i will get my new 225-40-18 Khumo's. Oh and the loan car, is a cute econobox "turquoise" blue MAzda 2, nice fit and finish and really well equip. a bit low on the powaa side, 105hp, but fun to drive..... |
Ok here is the list of what they did, turbo and everything that come with it, they found some oil trace up the IC piping and in the IC itself but just trace so they replace the turbo. They found a pretty substancial leak on the timing chain cover, they stripped the old silicone seal and did a new one. Both trail arm bushings, sway bar bushing back and front and the bracket under the battery that my SRI probably broke because of vibration. All of that after only 16k, worry me a bit for the future when my warranty expire. Anyway's happy to get my ride back after 3 day's with a Mazda 2. |
glad to hear |
