StreetUnit Side Mounts Installed First off, thanks goes out to Mark for getting these to me and answering my questions about them:banana: OK this is everything I ordered/received: SU Passenger Mount SU Tranny Mount SU Rear Mount bushing replacement (mine was pretty much dead) SU CUPS - FUCK YEAH http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...7/IMG_4207.jpg Anyways, onto some pics. I forgot to take some before the install...but hey you can see what they look like on SU's website :worthless: Passenger Mount http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4192Medium.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4190Medium.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4191Medium.jpg Tranny Mount http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4182Medium.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4197Medium.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4198Medium.jpg Rear http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...4201Medium.jpg Impressions Idle Vibes: They are definitely there, especially right after the install. Things could be a lot worse though. The PMM uses a pretty big bushing so that helps absorb some of them I am sure. This sort of thing is really all personal preference so it's hard to gauge what is "a lot" or "not bad" vibrations...but to me it's not bad at all, but there is an increase for sure. I only have about 500 miles on the mounts so far and even in that time, they have gone down noticeably. My friend rode in my car today and commented that the vibrations were not bad at all at idle. Either way, it's a worthwhile tradeoff to me when you consider the performance difference from getting the mounts (more later on that). Driving Vibes: None. Once you're moving and driving it's super smooth. The tranny mount (like all others...) will make your transmission audible....sort of a high pitched whine noise. I only notice it in 1st, 2nd and a little bit of 3rd gear. I think it sounds kind of cool and I really don't think it's anything anyone would be bothered or annoyed by...it's no big deal, just something different you'll notice after install. Fitment: These went right in...fitment was 100% perfect. Everything lined up perfect and there were no complications during the install. Nothing to worry about here. Performance: I don't really go around launching my car all the time, but the performance difference overall is quite noticeable. To make it even more noticeable for me, I am pretty sure my side stock mounts were starting to crap out on me. When I would make sharp turns I could feel the motor flopping around in the engine bay - it was not a good feeling while cornering. Now I can feel the tires planted solid against the ground...makes me a lot more confident in cornering and overall handling of the car. Straight line performance/launching: I did a 0-60 DH run today and did a few more launches to try and induce some wheelhop and just see how it felt overall. Overall it feels great, like the motor is solidly attached, no engine flopping around feeling like I had before with just a rear mount. I got the tiniest bit of wheelhop during one launch....but you probably need traction bars or something to totally eliminate it...damn you fwd. Overall...greatly improved traction/stiffness feeling and barely any wheelhop-none of that violent wheelhop crap either. Overall I'm super happy with the performance/stiffness aspect. It seems like they perform very well, without throwing comfort out the window at all. I don't know, I hope this helps. I have not seen many reviews of the SU mounts, but I am very happy with them and would recommend them to anyone looking for a complete mount set. It looks like they took their time to get the mounts right and it shows. I've always been a huge fan of their rear MM and the same quality shows through with these. |
Hey does that TMM bolt to the stock lower bracket or does it come with an new SU lower bracket? |
Yeah it just bolts to the lower stock "tripod" thing. |
Very nice man. V1 SU mounts FTMFW. |
I think the passangers wont feel the vibrations from the mounts as much as us, the drivers. I think the ONLY advantage of FWD in terms of road racing is the overall connection the driver is able to have with the car. We can feel the braking, acceleration, and the overall traction of the car through the steering wheel. I feel mounts only make that connection better for the drivers while passenegers just get footwell vibes and sounds from the vibes shaking things. |

good to see something work the first time correctly in the mazdaspeed community. This has to be a first! |

Haha I have these mounts, they're fucking awesome. |
yeah it seems like no one noticed that they were released. i honestly didnt even realize it until i stumbled across it on the website one day |
I think they've been very low key releasing them. Although they are on the front page of the site, I've only ever seen them announced that they were being made on the Street Unit Forums. No announcement that they are out...but I don't see why since it's a damn good product. |
Awesome work! |
lol just the fact that they fit perfect makes them win |
So this reuses the stock tripod? Have the stock tripods been known to break? |
I've heard someone say they have broken before, but i have no idea if that means a couple..or 1 isolated instance or what. I wonder how much of that can be attributed to the design or shittyness of the stock tranny mount though as a whole Having handled the tripod thing...it seems pretty beefy, I guess it's hard to know for sure but I'm not particularly worried about it breaking. |

very nice pictures aaron...i hope to get my medieval passenger mount pretty soon...and compare this with the SU mounts....i know with the medieval trans mount, it feels exactly like stock...no idle vibes or a/c vibes...its that good! but we needa add the passenger mount to see if it increases any |
Good review. I want to replace the mounts, but I like the PT tranny mount better. I'll probably get the SU passenger and PT tranny. I already have the SU rear mount. |
the funny thing about this communtity is everyone get stoked when something just works let alone performs well. but really those look like the best |
Wow, thats some quality looking shit that looks like it will hold up. May be my next mod when I get the cash. |
