The aluminum has a worse fatigue profile than the bolt. And properly torqued the bolt should only be loaded in tension.

Humor me, im a retard.

WHY is the OEM motor mount so soft? Is it the softest they could go in order to eliminate engine vibration or does the engine NEED to flex?

If you go with a solid motor mount where is the mechanical stress dissipated or does that not factor in here so long as the materials are able to handle their loads?

They just simply reused the regular Mazda 3s' motor mounts

Because, you have to expect women to own the car... children to be riding in the car, etc.

Ford used to use female librarians to test the interiors and driveability of their vehicles. Ford stopped doing that when those same women turned on them and said they wanted them to change the name of the Ford Probe. They said it was to sexual.

But at any rate, imagine how many whiney bitches you would have to deal with selling racecar!

Until i get a chance to ride with someone that has an 88 duro mount i really cant say anything about vibration being "annoying".

Is having the bushing there a "failure" point in any way? Ie, the RMM blows before something else does?

Cheaper to replace RMM then other things. The fail in only have 3 mounts as opposed to 4. So, with the shift in weight under acceleration, that RMM is handling a lot of work for the car.

Agreed. back in the day, everyone was rushing to replace their TMM once the bolts started backing out the stock mount, shearing, and the engine falling out. It was a small price to pay for not having the engine fall out.

I like that perk, as well as no wheel hop period.

you're right, raider... this is not a new concept. you blocked it out of your memory because it was PTP. i can't find the threads, but i know they exist talking about it. and you're right, they said it settled and wasn't that bad.

have had one for like 2 years and the engine doesn't move. OE side and tranny mounts and SUv2 RMM.

zero wheel hop and almost zero NVH.

IMO A 4th mount like the stiffy is a better choice than a PMM or TM. the motor needs 4 points of contact not 3...but that's just me. It could be considered an either or type of thing and maybe the 4th mount produces less NVH than stiffer PMM or TM. IDK.

I like having a stiffy.

I have one also.

It's more of a 3.5 mount point setup since the thing branches off of the pmm.

I have heard similar feedback from other member. He even put the stock mounts back in after installing Stiffy. Did you have a chance to inspect your TMM or PMM? Stiffy will no save you if TMM gives out. But, I suppose it can prolong the life of OEM TMM if installed early enough.

I have your 3.5 right here...wait....nevermind...

but you are splitting hairs and I disagree. the PMM does very little to keep the motor from rocking front to back....the stiffy absolutely prevents this..so although it uses the same mount location it is IMO a 4th mount point since it uses a different axis of stability

I just coined "axis of stability"

A PTP kicker is perhaps one step better since it bolts right to the block under the Alt, but fuck all that.

Solid mount should settle and vibes completely disappear in a month.

I'm about to purchase a TMM. Which one should I buy? Thinking about giving the new SURE mount a try.

yeah I guess I have been lucky with my TMM 55K miles on the original mount and I have checked the bolt numerous times and it was always tight.

The only thing that added significant NVH to my setup is going to the single mass flywheel in my ACT kit...car sounds like a tractor/diesel at idle until you push the clutch in...lol

so since we are on the topic...and this may be uber subjective but can someone remind me which mount adds the most NVH? Is it the PMM or the TMM or does that depend on who's mount you get?

IIRC the TMM adds the most but IDK for sure.
