Default switching to synthetic oil

at what mileage?
take off the pan to get the excess oil that doesn't drain?
install the baffle i sold?
i also have to switch to 5-40. same questions.
i hope those fragments of sentences were enough to get my point across...

Default Re: switching to sythetic oil

Id swap it out like a regular oil change, cruise around for a couple hundred miles or so then do one more change (including filter) and it should be more or less full synthetic by then... A little expensive but its easier then droppin the pan, which still would leave oil in the block anyways

Id just do a normal oil change.. then at 3500miles.. change it again and the filter.. that shit is too expensive to flush straight away.. its not going to hurt anything

i know what you mean.
i plan on doing a few fluid flushes...oil, coolant, and tranny fluid.
i plan on replacing with coolant or water with water wetter. i want to drain current water left in the system though.
and shut it...

just change the oil like you normally would...except with the synthetic. think of it as a "synthetic blend"...that's all they really do...=/

This car beats the shyt out of oil, that for true, especially modded. Buy a good brand you like and change it out in the regular manner.

F*ck, I ran dino 15W40 Walmart-brand Tech 2000 oil in my blown drag car for 13 years, no problems. That car just got faster.

3500 miles, don't worry about dropping the oil pan, you can't have your baffle back & rotella 5w40.

No worries, just change it out. That's what I've done in the past with previous cars. After a few oil changes (assuming you continue to use synthetic) the old oil will flush out.

As above - just do an oil/filter change and refill with synthetic. I did mine at the first oil change.

phil..belated welcome back btw..

I bought my MS6 with 120 on the odo. Changed oil at 1200 with dino 5/30 and filter. Changed oil and filter again @ 3.5k with M1 5/30 and oem filter. I've been changing at 3-5k with OEM filter and M1 5/30. I'm just around 50k on the clock. Time for tranny fluids for me though.

I don't lose a drop during changes, and car runs like a top.

eh.. dirty oil is better than no oil..

but in all seriousness the filter should be changed every oil change. unless you drive a ms3/6 and that fucker is impossible to get out without the proper tools.
spin on ftw.

i didn't have a stubby 15mm wrench for the bolt on top of the oil cooler.

how many miles do you have and you're just shifting to synthetic? that has to be some kind of record. it's like buying the hooker breakfast at this point.

Why the fuck won't my dealer put synthetic in mine then? He tells me no go for these cars. I mean he could be getting an extra $40 off of me every oil change. By the way my manual says change the oil every 5k.

philly, switch it to synth oil like a normal oil change and get an oil wrench tool from mazda to get the cartridge off properly every time. I think I paid like 25 bucks for the tool. torque it correctly next time fool! id also recommend you get a fresh oil drain plug washer if you dont change it out each time, synthetic oil is more "slippery" for lack of a better term, and can cause oil leaks to start appearing if you have always ran regular oil and are just switching.

the manual also says to use conventional oil. mazda has had something against synthetic oil for a long time now

dude....synthetic is what you should use.

all modern cars use it, why would we be any different?

and...do this, look at your oil at 3k and see how nasty and black it is with no viscosity left.
then look at it at 5k when you change it yourself and see how it feels like chalk.

I try and change my oil at 2500 miles if I can but i'll go 4k if i'm broke.

Have any of you tried the new Pennzoil Ultra?

I saw this new oil right next to the Platinum that i usually buy at Walmart. I said WTH and bought it, even though it came to about $36, compared to the $28 for the Platinum, 6qts.

After using this oil for about 150 miles, it seems my PT KR have gone down a lot, getting mostly 0.4 or 0.7. It's supposed to clean a lot of the gunk in there and anything to keep KR at bay is welcomed. Not calling any miracle here but it's strange not seeing the KR warning on my DH coming up every so often.

Might be worth a try for some of you.
