Syncro possible issues

My 08 MS3's previous owner had the dealership do some work on the transmission. I believe they replaced 3rd gear (I need to look up what they exactly did tomorrow) and may have replaced syncros. Im not sure if they replaced one, all of them, or any?

My issue is when the car is decelerating 2nd to 1st, it won't go into gear until it is a low speed such as 5mph. And this is even with the clutch fully down or engaged.

I read another thread with a similar issue and it was a broken syncro. If this is the case am I covered by power train warranty because the car has under 42K on it?

Don't go in first until you are under 5 MPH anyways....

Does it pop out if you engine brake in 1st or 2nd gear? (4000ish RPM and let off throttle, let car slow on its own)

There is no syncro for first gear.
On ANY car, that I know of. And certainly not this one.

Why the hell are you downshifting to 1st to begin with? You only put the car into 1st gear when your at a complete stop.

I downshift to first all the time. You just have to rev match.

This is because you sleep with your foot on the clutch and with the shift lever in your hand and wait too much, and in the meanwhile the transmission parts will slow down too much.
When you downshift make sure you either do it quickly and do not remove your foot from the gas pedal completely. If you downshift this way from 3rs to 2nd or other upper gears the synchros will help with your poor shifting, but not from 2nd to 1st.
There is no problem downshifting from 2nd to 1st even from 25mph (I never tried from more than that because it was not necessary) as long as you do it right.

Our trans has syncros for all forward gears. I think basically every modern trans design has a 1st syncro.

Downshifting to first is terrible for the syncros and will destroy the forks unless you rev match. Why would anyone need to downshift to first in a moving car, first is worthless for anything.

I didn't think any cars has syncros for first, but I guess I'll look into it.
If you've ever driven rattle snake point, or forks of the credit road, you'd know why you need to downshift into first.

In bumper-to-bumper traffic it doesn't really make sense to listen to all the vibrations and rattles the clutch/flywheel do at 10-12mph in 2nd. At least I always downshift to 1st at less than 12-13mph, I don't really like to slip the clutch in 2nd or any other gear than 1st.

Or when you need to pass rapidly some very slow vehicle while going uphill and moving really slow behind it, with like 15mph or so.

It also makes sense on tight technical and short circuits where you need to make tight turns, eventually to rotate the car using the handbrake and then accelerate quickly out of the turn.

There are a lot of situations like these I encountered over the time, there may be more.

Apparently we do have triple cone synchros on the first three years.
