Test Pipe Questions

I want my exhaust note to be a little deeper/more growl/louder (mostly the first two). After some searching I still have a few questions.

I found this: Testpipe Test Pipe Mazdaspeed 6 Turbo MS6 Mazda Speed 6: eBay Motors (item 250455235670 end time Jul-24-10 15:43:26 PDT)

Mods are in sig. Questions:

1) Will it work? I have trouble trusting ebay stuff...esp for a car.

2) Will I need to buy anything else to install it properly?

3) I'm pretty sure I wont get a CEL but I would like confirmation.

4) Will I NEED a tune or HPFP? If I need either it is probably a deal-breaker

Thanks in advance for any help.

2) Will I need to buy anything else to install it properly? If it doesnt come w/ hardware, you should be able to use your stock bolts
3) I'm pretty sure I wont get a CEL but I would like confirmation. there are no sensors AFTER that cat -- so no CEL
4) Will I NEED a tune or HPFP? If I need either it is probably a deal-breaker No need AT ALL

there ya go

Will a testpipe give me the sound change I am looking for? I often feel like my turbo spool from the CAI drowns out the exhaust note.

what gt said. the ebay tp is identical to su's and a quality piece. you'll get a little more growl with it.

exactly

actually i believe it evens things out nicely
when i put my TP on, the exhaust note got a little louder and got a little burble to it --- sounds really good and pulls strong

you wont go wrong w/ a TP

this thread makes me look forward to the arrival of my corksport test pipe

i have the CS TP as well -- you'd be surprised how restrictive that cat is

I think you are hearing induction noise on the intake side. While you can hear the "spool up" too, the loud roar is the induction or suction as the intake is pulling air though the open filter at the end of your CAI.

As to whether the test pipe will change sound, I can tell you that running a catless dp/rp will definitely change sound, making the sound both louder and deeper. I would suspect that since the rp is replacing the second cat and that cat is restrictive, then volume is going to go up.

Just so you know my man I purchased that exact pipe and it did not fit .. the shop had to bend the exhaust it was bolting to towards the mufflers to make it fit ( and I have an MS6 )
Also the gasket that came with it did not work... If I were you I would get one from a rep. place like street unit or cp-e and pay another 40 bucks or so ..

wow scary, i was looking at the same guy for my speed 3.

TurboXS race pipe has a flex joint built in. Costs a bit more, installs easily. Not a fanboy of that manufacturer or any other. Just pointing out that having the flex joint makes install very easy.

Get one with the hangers if anything, those hangers bouncing around is annoying as hell.

KayWHy can you PM me about the test pipes? I dot have 20 posts yet lol. Very interested! Need more burble. F* that second cat.

If it's sound you're looking for out of this, I don't think you'll be satisfied. I bought the Street Unit test pipe off someone for $40 and if someone would of put it on my car without telling me, I wouldn't have noticed it. However, looking at the pipe it replaces it is a decent performance mod. I now have the TP paired with the HKS CBE and thats a whole other story.

Hey all. Thanks for all the responses. Just wanted to give a quick update.

I did end up buying the eBay pipe. Had I seen Johnnyspeeds post I probably would have bought a different one...but o well. Anyways, as with johnny speed the pipe did not even come close to fitting. I sent the seller a message on ebay and hopefully it will be taken care of.

Has anyone else had success installing this pipe on an MS6 without modifying what is already there? Is my Magnaflow CBE making it worse?

How is it not fitting though? Like the flanges just don't match up? Or the cat-back side doesn't mate up flush with the cat-back?

I should have taken pictures before I put the stock cat back on. But basically when both flanges on the TP are lined up with their mating pipes they do not sit flush or even close. In order to make either flange on the TP flush the opposite end of the TP does not line up with its mating part.

the street unit isn't a 100% fit either but it looks to be the same. what i did it reused the oem donut gasket (the DP side), but i connected the cat-back side first, tight as i can get it. then connected the dp side with new bolts, reusing the springs for it and bolted it. make sure you don't compress the springs too much, i ran into an issue where my single exit CP-E cat back disconnecting the last section (its 3 pieces that mate together as male/female pipes)
