| Not Ranked : 0 score Press releases do mention Ford, but emphasize Mazda's need to comply with Japanese government environmental regulations. This is a quotation "Mazda has led the development of the new in-line four-cylinder engine for the Ford Group. The Ford Group will use versions of the engine globally, building approximately 1,500,000 units in Ford group plants worldwide." These engines are manufactured in Hiroshima, Japan. Here I cover your question regarding the design, engineering and manufacture of the MZR engines, which are primarily Mazda and Japanese. It cannot be clearer than a press release stating "Mazda has led the development of the new in-line four-cylinder", which is the MZR. There is a more detailed press release in July 2002 about the 1.3 and 1.5L MZRs "Shigeo Mizuno (Powertrain Deputy Manager) in charge of development of the engines said, "We brought our engineering and production staff together to create the MZR1.3/1.5 engines to fully inject Mazda's brand DNA into engine performance. We are confident that these small car engines signal a new benchmark for the class." In other sources, "The engine is produced at the company's Hiroshima plant, close to its headquarters in Fuchu Town, Hiroshima Prefecture, western Japan." Annual capacity there is just over 700,000 engines. There are no questions about the MZR DISI, which was developed for the MazdaSpeed/MPS and now used in the CX-7 is manufactured in Hiroshima, Japan, and so far only Mazda badged vehicles are using it. |

If you mod it and something fucks up or a problem comes up you pay the price and deal with it, plain and simple.

Anyone with more than ~275 whp is gonna have a tranny mount problem, sooner or later. Hell, there is a TSB on the tranny mount. That shows shitty quality, no matter how you want to frame it. Believe me, if I had the cash, I would be driving something else right now. In the mean time, if anyone else reads mine or other's posts before buying an MS3, then I have done a service.

Other than that, you are right about the mount (though it is HP + bad materials) & engine problems. I dont think that buying a WRX will solve all my problems, but I would like to think I know bad quality when I see it.

| Not Ranked : 0 score why do you keep taking unfounded personal shots at me, when all i did is report something vs. your constant whining and crying about how/when you are leaving because you are having some issues using bandaids to tune your car? since you are so concerned about me, builthatch means that 1. i've had built honda engines in my hondas in various guises for the past 10 years, and the main vehicle for that 10 year span was a hatchback, so for the past 10 years my email and screennames have been 'builthatch' and 2. i'm bigger and stronger than most NFL defensive tackles. i'm built like a fuckin' tank. no, correction- annoying and frantic. how are you telling us how you come off? haha, we tell you, that's how it works, not the other way around! just chill the fuck out, change your horrendous attitude, and participate with the community like something other than an upset child. you are doing noone a service, unless anyone is looking for someone who might have a tuning issue and deals with it by yammering about how they are going to get out of this car asap and attacking upstanding members. noone wants that, so either follow up on your commitment to get out and leave, or figure out how to behave better.

Second, I have the same intake as you, a CP-E DP & an AP (the AP is probably the only thing keeping the engine together, tbh). Bandaids? Right...
And spare me the e-thug routine. I am sure every nose picker on the internet is 6'6" 300#. I've rolled with guys pushing 300# in my bjj class. That shit doesnt impress me, so save it & go eat another pizza.

| Not Ranked : 0 score haha... in all seriousness, there was a post a pic of yourself thread on h-t a few years back and i participated. i then was constantly getting inquiries about my size, so from that point forward, my default sig always has my height and weight so people understand what i mean when i say x part of a car is too small, or whatever. i'm saying this because i want you to know it had nothing to do with self promotion. you can ask anyone that knows me, i'm the most mild mannered and understated person when it comes to my proportions, but occassionally there are a few people on the interwebz who like children in grade school will pick something to use against you and will dwell on it without understanding the facts. this isn't the first time, it won't be the last. the only surefire way for it to stop is if everyone met me personally and that is a pipedream, so life goes on.... anyway, as the mod said- back OT is just fine with me.... this is true. any mass produced high performance machine will never be perfect. first-rate, respectable manufacturers will do the best they can to assure things are engineered and produced properly, but the more you turn the wick, and the more people push something, inevitably there is going to be a higher rate of failure than a platform that is extremely detuned and under-used (driven softly).

| Not Ranked : 0 score Because the K-04 can spool up faster than the system can react to add fuel. At least with a bigger turbo, the ECU can get the fuel there before it hits 18 psi.

| Not Ranked : 0 score just to keep the confusion down if someone misinterprets the statement made that psi is psi...psi levels from two different turbos do not equal the same charge even if the boost pressure is the same. the same boost pressure from two different turbos can mean two greatly different things in terms of power and quality of the charge.... a bigger turbo will be more efficient and flow more CFM per PSI if you are reaching the tail end of the realistic output of the smaller piece; the smaller turbo will have to be working ALOT harder to achieve the same boost pressure. the sacrifice can typically be spool time, but there are alot of variables in turbo technology, associated parts and tuning (CU, WG action, etc) that can close this gap and make a bigger turbo just as responsive vs. a smaller one, but deliver a cooler and more volumous charge. i used to have some really cool corky bell links about this subject, i'll try to find them.

| Not Ranked : 0 score 20 psi with a 2.5" pipe or 20psi with a 3" pipe which is moving more air? Or which is better a electric bicycle pump straining to make 20 psi or a big air compressor making 20psi but has the capability to push more?? A bigger turbo will flow more air easier. |

Makes sense about the volume + PSI thing, though. To get the same air, you would have to lower the PSI on a bigger turbo. So how does it look to the ECU. If the ECU is asking for 18 PSI, does it think its getting the same amount of air with the stock turbo? If so, that would throw A/F way off?

There is a fix for the mount, I just didn't figure on it being us that got it done. There are going to be fixes for the knock counts as well, give cobb a while to address as well as us. We are working with an EMS unit that has "learn as you drive". You will still have to wire the SOB in but the tune will be very easy to achive. That should get rid of the knock issues. The whole blown motor issue, well.... this is a pay to play hobby/sport. If your going to make things more powerful, faster, quick, or beat on the car more you had better be prepaired to start spending money on it. Not saying that the stock rods or Mazda are a good product, just that we all should know now that the stock rods are no good for anything much over 370 WTQ.

| Not Ranked : 0 score After reading all these posts I want to make sure mine wasn't having the same sound issues IDRVSLO posted below. I do notice a very slight sound when the car is in neutral which is hardly noticeable and if you open the door you can't hear it at all over the engine. When I push the clutch pedal in I don't notice any vibrations so I’m good there. Then after pushing the clutch pedal 1/3rd of the way down the noise stops. I assume this is just normal as it's engaging the clutch but wanted to post and see what others thought. POSTED BY IDRVSLO on another thread: --The car makes this noise while at any RPM in neutral, sitting still, with the clutch not engaged(pedal all the way out) --When you begin to push the clutch pedal in it vibrates but the vibration goes away after the first 3 inches. --After the first 3 inches I cannot hear the noise or feel vibrations at all. So it could not be the motor in my eyes. |
