Default Thoughts on this compression test please

Curious what you guys think about these numbers:

Just compression tested an 07 ms3 with 121k, intake+inlet, catback, and accessport stage 1 ots tune, I was planning to buy in a few days.

cylinder 1:164
cylinder 2: 181
cylinder 3:159
cylinder 4:162

Cylinder 1 was pretty dusted in orange from the spark plug (?) and wet down the cylinder. The rest looked clean and normal.

The price is really good so I'm still contemplating it.

Any thoughts or concerns are much appreciated. This will be my 3rd ms3 and I loved my last two.

That's solid compression. And in my experience so far, compression and leakdown only tell so much. Not to make my example the rule, but in summer of 2017 my car had 110 compression on cyl 3 with a 9/30 leakdown. It's not my only car so I'm not worried about catastrophic failure since I can fix it. But it's been driving with those numbers for 1.5 years for about 25k miles with multiple autocrosses and it keeps going. I'm careful about when I boost (RPM and temp) and I keep up with maintenance. Take care of the car and it'll take care of you. Overall point: Check for wear and tear items like bushings/suspension components, brakes, etc to get a general idea of whether or not the owner really took care of it. I don't think any of what you said should be worrisome.

That is ~13 percent difference between cylinders. I would do a leak down. Did you do a wet test? the actual comp number isn't important its just the amount of variation between the cyls that is the issue. you could have 140 across all 4 but as soon as you have a big difference it could mean a broken ring land or valve issues.

I am a bit confused is this a stock speed and those are the parts you want to buy?

If so with 120k on the clock with a meh comp numbers i would save for a fresh motor and have fun for another 30k on what you have now. I thought my speed was fun then i swapped the motor and am having a lot more fun.

Alcohol and controlling torque can keep the motor together for a long time. So a meth kit and a tune would be your best bet to please the mod bug bite.

Ya, I haven't rechecked it since 2000miles.
I've been meaning to.
I'm at about 9000miles now.

Thanks for the responses everyone, it was a dry test and the car wasn't nearly as hot for the 2,3,4 cylinders. I ended up buying it and will be doing the test again when my spark plugs get here.

@5door they are the mods already on the car

I wouldn't worry that much, you know there is some wear but i don't think it show any damages. When i broke a ringland mine droped to 115-120 and it wasn't dead. It took me more than a year to finally get it out to rebuild.
I got a 6 and our CX7 has a similar compression test figure and drive perfectly fine.
I know both have wear but a leak down would tell more about if it is from the cylinder, clogged valves or injector seals....

Check it again hot and it should be even better.

Strap a meth kit on it and dont worry about it just check the compression with your oil changes incase shit starts to go south you can get on top of it quick. I would still do a leak down it could be bad injector seals.
