Default timing chain ??

Hey guys I've been pondering this since I bought my ms6 a week ago it's got 79000 miles on it and I have no idea if timing chain had been replaced.. I think for my own sanity I should just replace but of course who wants to spend uneccesary money... should I just bite the bullet .... what's recommended mileage for replacement anyway.. thanks

My 07 Mazdaspeed 3 just had the VVT recall performed today because of a loose chain. Don't shit yourself but I just rolled over to 30k miles. I do however drive my car hard.

Pull the valve cover and inspect it. It should take no more than 3 hours if you haven't spent too much time under the hood.

I am at 58k and bought it JAN 2012. Never had any chain / VVT work done.

I don't have any start-up noises but pulled valve cover to inspect the chain. Looked good.

You aren't guaranteed to have an issue with the VVT / Timing Chain but are guaranteed to have to change your oil. In that respect, though the odds are against you.

Do you have start-up rattle noise? (There is noise coming from VVT, not to be confused with a failed VVT).
