Timing chain tension While I had my valve cover off I took a look at the timing chain and pulled up on it slighty. There was a little bit of slack there, do you guys know if this is normal. I JUST had the chain and VVT replaced under warranty this week. Should the timing chain be tight or is it normal to have some sort of slack in it? Should I be bringing this back and getting the tensioner done? |
Nevermind, I'm told I have to check this when the engine is at temperature as the tensioner requires a certain level of oil pressure. I'll run around in my car tomorrow and then try seeing what the tension is from the oil filler hole later. |
Did they not do the chain and tensioner when they did the vvt? But you should check it while it's warm, yes. |
Dealer should have replaced the chain per the tsb, and common sense. |
Yeah they replaced the chain and VVT, as per the TSP. Apparently the VVT was fine, the chain was stretched, they replaced both either way. I'll check later when it's up to temperature, I might also call and ask if they did the tensioner as well. |
Well drove it around for some errands today and while it was parked and had a bit of time to cool down (so I don't burn my hand), I stuck my finger in where the oil filler cap is. The chain is as tight as a tiger. So no worries there. |
