Trans fluid leaking out of linkage area

My transmission fluid came out of the top of the trans the the other day. I'm suspecting it was from slamming on the brakes to a dead stop as I was avoiding hitting something. It looks like it came out from around the shift selector. There's a boot that supposed to cover it but it wasn't on completely. So I cleaned everything up and put the boot on around the groove, but today, which was 3 days later I went to move the car and noticed more fluid. Popped the hood and there was a pool around the shift selector again. This time was just normal driving.

I've tracked this car numerous times, and it has 130,000 miles on it, yet I've never experienced this. I was trying to remember if there's a clamp that goes around the dust boot? Mine doesn't have one, and I can't remember having it off. I did replace the clutch at 100,000 miles but I'm sure if I took a clamp off the boot I would have put it back on. I'm also sure that the trans isn't overfilled. The last time I did a fluid change was at 100,000 miles.

Anyone else experience this problem? Could someone look and see if their boot around the shift selector has a clamp on it?

I wiped up the excess before I took the photos, but this is where it's coming out from.

And of course it ran down the front of the block

Underneath

And all over the suspension and shit.

Also the time today wasn't nearly as much, so I was thinking maybe it's just fluid trapped at the top of the trans somewhere? I still can't believe that much came out. The photos are from the first time.

It is a known problem, you need to replace your shaft pivol seal. Costs about 6-8 bucks at a Mazda dealer. Here is the how to:

The above thread is for the 6 but will be easier on the 3 since we don't have a motor mount in the way; I did mine in about 30 minutes.

No I have a 3. I searched all over for someone with the problem, thanks for the link man.

So do you know if this was the part you ordered?

Thats the correct PN, I recommend getting a punch as using a bit to get the pin out was a pain in the ass for me; personally.

Getting part out of the trans will seem difficult but just move the arms around that the linkage connects to and it will slide right out. Use the same method upon reassembly.

Good luck, like I said too me like 30 minutes. Ten of which were trying to get the pin out of the housing because I was using the bit and not a punch.

Thanks, I read through the multiple threads on it and ordered the bearing and vent as well. I have a lot of experience with transmissions so I shouldn't have any trouble. I'll def update when it's done.
