TurboXS test pipe, worth it?

Just wondering if the test pipe is worth it.
Will there be a significant difference in loudness and feel the difference?
Thanks.

Or is it not worth it?
Thanks.

BTW I have a Mazdaspeed CAI installed on my MS6.

If you live in a place that you can run without cats, go for the whole down pipe and race pipe combo, it's sooooooooo worth it. Test pipe by itself I can't comment on since I did the whole thing at once.

clos561 08-27-2009 09:50 AM

it helps with performance and deepens the tone a bit but seriously its not noticable like a dp install or something that drastic.

-i just gutted my cat

gsrtype1 08-27-2009 10:13 AM

Import tuner gained 12whp switching from stock testpipe cat to vibrant high flow cat and only 6hp from catless downpipe. The test pipe cat is alot bigger than downpipe cat I pretty sure so getting it out should yeilld decent results.

mn3kgtvr4 08-28-2009 03:36 PM

I put one on a month ago and you feel it a bit with the butt dyno, but the sound is great, not really any louder just a nice richer, deeper tone to the stock exhaust. Highly recommend it. Have fun with those bolts.

Marauder.45 08-28-2009 03:45 PM

It's louder, but not too bad. It's not like straight dumps off a 350 like some people make it out to be. More resonation in the cabin too, but again minor. Passengers will never notice.

dkspeed 08-28-2009 04:02 PM

If you were buying new i would recommend staticxmotorsports.com it is the cheapest I found it. $112.94

I would love to go completely catless, but here in Chicago cops slam you for everything. I have a STi with 3.5" downpipe and no cats, and I have been pulled over 7 times already.
I absolutely love the sound of turbo cars with no cats, but since I daily drive the MS6, I dont wanna be pulled over every other day.

Cool, thanks! That's what I figured.

Thanks for the info, and luckily we don't have a O2 sensor and not have to worry about throwing a code.

Thanks! That's what I am looking for. My other car I am running no cats, and I love the sound but get pulled over way too much here in Chicago, and since this is my daily driver I just want a little more sound.
I really want to go catless, and run a bigger dp but don't feel like getting harrassed by cops.
So I just some extra grunt out of it, cuz stock exhaust isn't cutting it, lol.

Thanks I'll check it out.

Edit:
The other site was $170, so a lot cheaper on that site. thanks again.

dkspeed 08-29-2009 02:00 PM

No problem

long101 08-30-2009 11:59 AM

Damn another person from Chicago? What part?

We DO have an O2 sensor....its after the first cat.

I agree, my girl notices every change I make it seems if it makes any noise that wasn't their when it was stock, but she didn't notice this test pipe when I put it on!

Felt a little more power when under boost and it sounds very good, but I totally agree that the bolts suck nuts.

Do yourself a favor and get some stainless bolts that are about an inch longer and new stainless nuts and washers while your at it to do it right.

Sacrilicious 08-31-2009 09:31 AM

you should also consider the corksport TP as well:

Mazda3Online :: ProtegeGarage :: MazdaRX8Online - Your Source for Mazda Performance

it doesn't have the flex pipe, so has fewer points of failure. i like it better just because it's a direct replacement for the stock TP...no extra frills that might break...

Just remember to keep your old ones if you need to go back to stock.

Definitely, never know when you need some warranty work, lol

What i meant was in the 2nd cat.

SharkDiver 09-01-2009 08:12 AM

What I did was use TXS Dp/and test pipe and I welded in a high flow cat into the test pipe.If done right you will get no cels and gain a good amount of hp.

tdream1 09-01-2009 11:57 AM

TXS race pipe

I've had the TSX race pipe on for quite some time. I noticed a nice bump in performance from it. It also made the exhaust tone a little deeper. You can't go wrong for the price.

West side, around the UIC area. Theres a decent amount of us guys around, you can probaly hear/feel someones car with the tp installed. Intro yourself in the Nator section

I think the V-Band DPs are the same idea also right? No code from them?

Definitely, it's a great deal for the price. I would really love to just run a big downpipe, but unfortunately living here, can't really have it on daily driver without getting hassled frequently by cops.

xxandrossxx 09-02-2009 09:45 PM

can someone post a direct link to the test pipe? im at Static X Motorsports, Inc. and cannot find the pipe at all...I have tried searching etc, and nada.

popecruz 09-03-2009 07:59 AM

I've never heard of Static x motorsports, but I do know of these guys:

Turbo-XS Race Pipe - Modern Automotive Performance

Marauder.45 09-03-2009 08:32 AM

Or these guys.

MS6 Stainless Steel Test Pipe

Dino V,

Get the combo of TurboXS downpipe and testpipe, they are worth it.

I have been tempted to, I think I might just bite the bullet and take the risk with cops.

Marauder.45 09-06-2009 09:31 AM

Street level cops you probably don't have to worry about, it's the mobile inspection stations you have to worry about. If you get pulled into one that's when you need to worry.

I might just have to take a chance then, lol. You have no idea how often I'd get pulled over in the STi for loud exhaust.

Marauder.45 09-09-2009 08:51 PM

The way that is worded sounds like you don't actually get pulled over, you just think you would if you had loud exhaust.

So do you get pulled over alot? If you do, are they checking for cats now? What would the difference be?

They don't check for cats, but they give you bs loud noise city tickets.
I have been pulled over at least once a month in the STi running a 3.5" from the turbo straight back(no cats), I do a lot of driving.

Marauder.45 09-10-2009 08:49 AM

How much is the ticket? It must be worth it.

By now they have pegged your car, maybe a car change will get you off the hook for a while. Then keep your RPMs down when the law is around.

down here in FL, one of the counties actually has a law that says if the exhaust isnt stock...its illegal. So be thankful that your law checks for dB level and not just aftermarket.

Marauder.45 09-10-2009 09:13 AM

That sucks ass.

Its a $25 dollar citation every time, but it's a PITA going somewhere and being pulled over.
And since the state of IL is in major debt I'm sure there will be more tickets coming, lol!

Here also, but they don't pull you over unless they think its loud. But I've had buddies that have been pulled over for just having aftermarket exhaust on, just not too common.
