Warning to Catless users...

After having some problems the past month with AFRs...I was really looking at my logs really closely...and I noticed my corksport clatless DP is maxing out the wastegate in very cold weather.

Im basically fully bolted with corksport TBE...and in my logs at WOT my wastegate duty cycle bumps up for a second then goes to 0 for the entire time. And the ECU is trying to control boost with the throttle plate. Even though I'll be WOT with the pedal, the throttle plate will only be at 40-50%, then slowly climb up as the RPMs increase. So the wastegate is not big enough to control boost from building in these cold temps

So basicly cobb is right when they said do not use catless DPs or else the wastegate may not be efficient to control boost. In this case...its true in very cold temps (Im in the 20s-30s)

Just a warning to everyone else out there of this problem...be VERY careful when running OTS maps...and VERY careful if your doin hard shifts when its cold and your catless...

remember thats for the shitty internal wastegate homie..

me 44mmtial wont doesnt have them problemos

You hit it on the head with being careful with loading the motor and shifts that may not allow the system to recover from spikes.

Tousche...for all you external wastegate ballers...you don't have to worry about that.

But for all of us poor kids with stock turbo catless TBE...ya'll need to be careful.

the CS DP also has that divider flange which some peoples WG flapper hits and doesent allow it to open all the way. maby you should check for this.

i hit boostcut if its below 20F. Anything over im fine. 23psi my car CUTS!

im running ATP catless DP but during winter i drive it pretty easy:P

i don't think the lack of cat is your issue - i think it's the divorced wg pipe/ output without there being a real separation up in the turbo - i'd be willing to bet if you switched to either a different dp or a mbc, you wouldn't have the problem.....

holeinmypocket 12-24-2009 09:29 PM

i would agree with cpolly69

I mean I guess Ill try popping off the DP tomorrow and ripping that thing out. I really dont get boost spikes (I controlled it with the wastegate duty cycle table) like others have.

Only issue is the guy i bought this from had a O2 bung welded in but it bumps up against the alternator (idiot) so it may be hard to pull it off.

Ugh we will see I guess...

Hmm I got down to negative 30 last week. My car would start and kill it self once, then I start up again and go fine. Every time i tried to run it would do this. Gotta love south dakota. BTW Sorry for thread jacking, but thanks for the info.

I think its more the cs dp, dont really like that piece i like the bell mouth design better

so there is an extra bung welded on there for a aftermarket wideband? I was just wondering if this was possible because I just picked up a AFR gauge and Innovative WB controller. If its not practical, then I'm gonna have to pick up a bellmouth DP

You can get a bung welded into the CS DP...you just need to look at your DP when its in the car and mark a spot where you can have it installed and it won't bump up into anything.

It looked to me like he had the bung welded in without actually test fitting it in the car. Then it was put in the car and WOOPS...alternator is in the way.

Alright...I tore out my downpipe today and popped of that divider with vice grips lol. Did the whole thing in about 4 hours...thats gotta be some kind of record lol. I did find marks on my wastegate and the DP divider showing it is restricting wastgate movement

Any who...I did notice I have a little lower boost now (wastegate is able to open all the way), however I am still pegging at 0% and getting 16 psi. This isnt that big of a deal...becuase once I turn boost up then I will get some wastegate duty

HOWEVER...I still stand by my statement that the colder temps may make your catless setup boost more then intended.

If you have a way to monitor your wastegate...I'd still check it and keep an eye on your boost levels.

:)
